Over And Over
Al Bairre Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Why do you act like you're over it before I’m done?
I don’t wanna be your girlfriend, I wanna have some fun
You look like one in a million but not the only one
I don’t love you at all you're just my best friend
Somebody I know
I could pretend that I'd wanna be your boyfriend
It’s just that in my opinion that sounds like lot of one
Just when I thought I could really know you
I liked you best when you’d fallen over
Same old same, yeah I know you know I know her
Let's make less sense let’s do this over and over
(Oh, help me young man)
(Somebody hold my hand)
('Cause nothing I’ve tried feels anything like home)
(And now I don’t know where I am)
Oh, help me young man (Oh, help me young man)
Somebody hold my hand (Somebody hold my hand)
'Cause nothing I’ve tried feels anything like home
And now I don't know where I am
Just when I thought I could really know you
I liked you best when you’d fallen over
Same old same, yeah, I know you know I know her
Let's make less sense let’s do this over and over
Why do you sound like a dolphin when we make love?
Why do you act like you're over it before I'm done?
I don’t wanna be your girlfriend, I wanna have some fun
You look like one in a million but not the only one
Oh, help me young man (Oh, help me young man)
Somebody hold my hand (Somebody hold my hand)
'Cause nothing I’ve tried feels anything like home
And now I don't know where I am
Just when I thought I could really know you
I liked you best when you’d fallen over
Same old same, yeah, I know you know I know her
Let's make less sense let’s do this over and over
The lyrics to Al Bairre's song "Over and Over" speak to the complexities of relationships and the desire for something more than traditional labels. The opening lines, "Why do you sound like a dolphin when we make love? Why do you act like you're over it before I’m done?" suggest a lack of emotional connection during intimacy, and the line "I don’t wanna be your girlfriend, I wanna have some fun" further emphasizes a desire for a more casual relationship. The lyrics "I don’t love you at all you're just my best friend. Somebody I know, I could pretend that I'd wanna be your boyfriend, there's one for everyone, it’s just that in my opinion that sounds like a lot of one" suggest a fear of losing the friendship by taking it to a romantic level, and a preference for independence.
The chorus, with the repeated lines "Just when I thought I could really know you, I liked you best when you’d fallen over, same old same, yeah, I know you know I know her, let's make less sense let’s do this over and over," further emphasizes the confusion and uncertainty within the relationship. The lyrics are full of contradictions and mixed feelings, suggesting a push and pull dynamic between the two individuals. The repeated line "oh help me young man, somebody hold my hand, 'cause nothing I’ve tried feels anything like home, and now I don't know where I am" conveys a sense of lostness and longing for security and stability.
