I'll String Along With You
Al Bowlly & Ray Noble and His Orchestra Lyrics

But no angel ever came along
Then one happy afternoon I met you
And my heart began to sing a song
Somehow, I mistook you for an angel
But now I'm glad that I was wrong
You may not be an angel
But until the day that one comes along
I'll string along with you
I'm looking for an angel
To sing my love song to
And until the day that one comes along
I'll sing my song to you
For every little fault that you have
Say, I've got three or four
The human little faults you do have
Just make me love you more
You may not be an angel
But still I'm sure you'll do
So until the day that one comes along
I'll string along with you
For every little fault that you have
Say, I've got three or four
The human little faults you do have, honey
Just make me love you more
You may not be an angel
But still I'm sure you'll do
So until the day that one comes along
I'll string along with you
The song 'I'll String Along With You' is a classic love song that tells a story of a person looking for an angel in his life but found love in an unexpected place. It starts with the singer expressing his desire for an angel, which reflects the longing for someone perfect and ideal, but the reality is that he finds human love in the form of his lover. The lyrics suggest the idea that the person may not be what he initially thought he was looking for, but the singer is content with what he has found. The phrase "string along" implies a sense of uncertainty or lack of commitment, but in this context, it indicates a willingness to be with his lover despite their imperfections.
The lines "For every little fault that you have, say I've got three or four, the human little faults you do have just make me love you more" reveal that the singer loves his lover despite her imperfections. This highlights the idea that love is accepting someone with their flaws and imperfections, rather than holding them to impossible standards. The singer acknowledges that his lover may not be the ideal 'angel' that he initially wanted but is content to be with her because they share a deep emotional connection.
In summary, 'I'll String Along With You' is a charming and classic love song that expresses the idea that true love is not about finding perfection but rather finding someone who loves you despite your imperfections. The singer cherishes his lover, despite her human flaws, and sings about his desire to stay by her side until he finds the 'angel' he has been searching for.

Truly 30s music was great ..my only reservation is that it's too often jazzed up high tempo...such as this song could for me have been better slower

After thorough exploration of YouTube it's amazing how everyone who has done this song screws it up, with the exception of Al Bowlly. Look around. There are some really bad versions of this song by people who should know better.

It's the arrangement. Talent is useful. But direction is pretty much all. Along with technique. Whether it's bowie or bowlly, or mozart for that matter. Ray Noble.
