Souchon signed his first contract in 1971, but had no success until he began to collaborate with composer/arranger Laurent Voulzy ; they would write together, but each released albums under his own name. Souchon's first hit was "J'ai 10 ans" (1974), from the album of the same name. Souchon's biggest hit was probably "Foule Sentimentale" from 1995's C'est Deja ca. His recent album is from 2005, called La Vie Theodore which features his song "Et si en plus, y'a personne" [What if, even more, there is no one], a song condemning religious intolerance.
He wrote the theme for François Truffaut's 1979 film Love on the Run (L'amour en fuite).

Banale song
Banale song
Banale song
Je sais mais j'en ai rien à faire
Banale song
Pardon aux play-boys littéraires
Banale my song, pour eux
Mais pour moi, super song
Banale song
Banale song
Banale song
Banale song
C'est une banale song

Banale song
"Banale Song" by Alain Souchon is a simple yet beautiful ode to love, specifically the act of saying "I love you" to someone. Souchon seems to revel in the simplicity of this phrase, describing it as a "simplistic poem" and a "joli discours". He repeats the phrase "Je t'aime, je t'aime, je t'aime" multiple times throughout the song, emphasizing the power and importance of those three words. The chorus declares that this may be a banal song, but it's still a "super song". Souchon is unapologetic about the simplicity of his lyrics, as evidenced by the line "Je sais mais j'en ai rien à faire" ("I know, but I don't care").
One could interpret "Banale Song" as a commentary on the excess and artifice often attached to expressions of romantic love. In a world where grand gestures and elaborate words are expected to convey love, Souchon suggests that sometimes the most simple, direct declarations can be the most powerful. His use of the word "banale" (which translates to "banal" or "ordinary") is a nod to the idea that love doesn't always have to be complicated, and that saying "I love you" is enough.
Overall, "Banale Song" is a beautiful reminder that love needn't be complex, and that sometimes the most simple expressions can be the most powerful.
