Souchon signed his first contract in 1971, but had no success until he began to collaborate with composer/arranger Laurent Voulzy ; they would write together, but each released albums under his own name. Souchon's first hit was "J'ai 10 ans" (1974), from the album of the same name. Souchon's biggest hit was probably "Foule Sentimentale" from 1995's C'est Deja ca. His recent album is from 2005, called La Vie Theodore which features his song "Et si en plus, y'a personne" [What if, even more, there is no one], a song condemning religious intolerance.
He wrote the theme for François Truffaut's 1979 film Love on the Run (L'amour en fuite).

The lyrics to Alain Souchon's "Frenchy Bébé Blues" express the singer's love for a girl who makes his life and home more beautiful. He refers to her as a "sun palm tree" in his cup of chamomile and cannot help but wonder "where is she?" when she is not around. Despite his popularity as a singer, he feels like a "young man in the provinces" when he is with her, and he cherishes the moments they spend together in small town theaters, reading "The Little Prince" to each other.
The song also acknowledges the temptation to leave this girl for a fleeting moment of pleasure with someone else. However, Souchon recognizes that his life has changed so much since meeting her and that he would regret losing her, even if he were to go on to travel the world and meet many other people. The beauty and sweetness of their love song continues to touch the deepest part of his heart, and he wishes to cherish it for as long as possible.
Overall, "Frenchy Bébé Blues" reveals the singer's vulnerability and the emotional depth of his love for this girl. He recognizes the preciousness of their love and understands that it sets him apart from other people he meets on his travels.
