I'm sorry
Alan Dale Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm sorry for the things I've done
I know that I'm the foolish one
Now that I see who's to blame
I'm so ashamed, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry for the things I've said
Just like a child, I lost my head
I should have known from the start
I'd break your heart, I'm sorry.

Please be kind and I know you'll find
It's so easy to forgive.
Darling wait for it's not too late
Give our love a chance to live.

I know the heartaches you've been through
I know for I've had heartaches too
There's nothing more I can do
But say to you "I'm sorry".

Please be kind and I know you'll find
It's so easy to forgive.
Darling wait for it's not too late
Give our love a chance to live.

I know the heartaches you've been through
I know for I've had heartaches too

There's nothing more I can do
But say to you "I'm sorry".

I only previously knew the 1957 hit recording of this song by the Platters. I am very grateful to Mark for having posted this earlier (and quite lovely) version by Alan Dale!

@fras2008

A spectacular performance! This song was originally the "B" side of Alan's "Here in My Heart", but it quickly became such a favorite of disc jockeys that Coral rushed out another record with "I'm Sorry" as the "A" side. One of Alan's most admired records, it has appeared on several "Hits of the 50s" compilations.

I met Alan Dale in the mid 80's in Brooklyn.  He drove me home one night after an exercise class and I didn't have a clue who he was - just thought he was a nice old man (50's at the time-LOL!) who did my friend (owner of exercise club) a favor by driving me home.  When we pulled up to my house, Alan said he used to eat his lunch on my stoop when he was young (middle school/high school age).  Then he said, "I bet if you asked your parents who Alan Dale is THEY would know".  Boy did they ever!  My father almost fell off his chair when I told him who drove me home that night as he LOVED this song "Way Marie" as it was the first record he bought when he was a young man in the 1940s.  He was a nice man to me.

@cindys1819

Al since the 50's warned of the red influence in Hollywood and other parts
of the entrainment industry... And the media. In the 60's. He returned to his original interest in journalism. He had a major syndicated column in the late
1960's. This was the height of the Viet Nam war and campus demonstrations.

I was working for a newspaper in 1968 and first knew of Alan then. Those who view Al as a musical talent have seen nothing of the real range of this truly remarkable individual.
