Okay, I know people disagree but I think it's vry clear why gaston does all this:

1. We was the leader of the army years ago, thats also why all the villagers loved him (and because he is hot)
2. There wasn't a war in many years so he wanted some action, he says in the song 'It's a nightmare but it's one exiting ride' and he says 'Call it war, call it threat!' He thinks: finally a war again now I can do the only thing I'm good at
3. He is angry because why is the only girl that gives him "that sense of je ne sais quoi'" also the only girl that don't love him.
4. He's also angry at th beast because he locked Belle, his "future wife"
5. the whole village count on him to save the village because he is the big army leader and the people are affraid
6. He is a person who makes quick decisions, he goes on his instinct.
7. If you think of a beast, I'm sure you don't think he can be kind and honest. If you saw him, you would probably try to hurt or kill him or you run away.

I think 7 reasons is enough.
Btw, English is not my language so if it is't very good....

LeFou makes an excellent point here. This line really brings up how there are a lot of opposites in this movie. The Beast (at this moment in time) is kind and gentle and he just happens to look like a monster, but Gaston is a real monster in human form who preys on uncertain minds and roams freely.

I really like this movie's LeFou compared to the original's. This one isn't just a mindless lackey and is a real person slowly realizing the man he has admired and idolized is actually a cold, heartless bastard.

super.sam_the_man basically, through out the movie, Gaston goes from a guy who’s a bit of a vain asshole, to a complete psychopath hell bent on killing the beast to win Belles affection. Lefou from the beginning was Gaston’s best friend, believing he could do no wrong. At around this time, he realizes he’s wrong. “But I fear the wrong monsters released” means Lefou is thinking that the beast isn’t the monsters, but Gaston is the true monster

I have to admit when I first saw the casting I was skeptical about Luke Evans. But after hearing this I think it might be damn near perfect casting. It's clear he's immersed in this role and it pays off. He adds such a malevolence to the character of gaston. Far more than the cartoon version who was more of an ignorant brute. In this one you can clearly hear how sinister he really is when talking about the people "doing as I say". Shows that all he cares about is power and asserting his will over the masses. And the fact that LeFou recognizes this adds even a more brilliant element to it. Well done by all involved, especially Evans.

my favorite thing about this version, besides everyone's voices, is just how epic the orchestration is. The size of the orchestra for this version sounds massive and all the songs sound way better from an instrumental stand point than any other version I've heard before.

LeFou: There's a beast running wild, there's no question.
But I fear the wrong monster's released.

And that is how you adapt a character without completely, unnecessarily rewriting his entire personality/motivations. LeFou remains loyal to Gaston throughout the rest of the film, as he did in the animated film, but this shows his humanity. He's not just a goofy sidekick who hero-worships Gaston because that's what the plot says he should do. This one simple little line shows he has doubts and sees Gaston for who he is. Brilliant.

I feel like they took a great direction with Gaston in this version. In the original, Gaston was just a douche the whole way through, but he was made more of a bad guy due to the circumstances around him. This new Gaston is WAY more malicious, for instance when he PUNCHES OUT MAURICE, and is so corrupted that Lefou, his greatest admirer (in more ways than one), turns against him. Also, we now know that the reason why everyone adores Gaston is because he's a war hero.

I love that they added LeFou's extra line, as well as Luke Evan's emphasis on how manipulative Gaston really is.
But another one of my favorite parts is when the castle servants join the song. I love that their courage in fighting against people that are much stronger than them is recognized here. Even if there's a chance that they fully become the objects they look like, they still fight a difficult war that might not be won.

To me this is honestly the villains song. "Gaston" is portrayed as the villains song, but at the time, he wasn't the villain, he was a guy who got rejected, but this song is when you truly see how gaston has turned into the villain, which even LeFou pointed out, who praised him during Gaston.

Gaston is actually a fascinating character study. If Belle and the Beast weren't the protagonists, Gaston is what makes an amazing protagonist; courageous, charismatic and a little arrogant. But the twist is that Gaston is loved by literally everyone but Belle, so the mix of pride and his already existant arrogance makes him a shallow jerk who wants the one thing he can't have. Since he's the town hero while being attractive, he could easily stir up a mob of people; meanwhile Belle's father, a "crazy" old man, gets thrown out in the snow when he's in a massive panic. Gaston is seen as an okay villain, but I see him as a really interesting character altogether.

I find this line extremely interesting. Lefou has always been Gaston's biggest fanboy, blind to anything bad about him and following along and supporting whatever Gaston does. I will be very pleased if this is the case because it means they have taken a background character and given him much more depth.
