O'Day also wrote songs for other notable performers, including "Angie Baby" a 1974 number one for Helen Reddy, co-wrote the Righteous Brothers' number 3 hit "Rock And Roll Heaven", & wrote "Easy Evil" for Dusty Springfield. Other O'Day tunes were recorded by 70's AM radio staples like Cher, Three Dog Night, OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN, Anne Murray, The Fifth Dimension, and Bobby Sherman. In the 1980s he collaborated with Japanese singer-songwriter Tatsuro Yamashita, and they had hits in Japan. O'Day's successes eventually included television, co-writing over 100 songs for the Saturday morning Muppet Babies series, and in the 1990s he wrote and performed music on the National Geographic series "Really Wild Animals".

O'Day continued to write and record. His album "I HEAR VOICES" is available through his website, CD Baby, and iTunes.

O'Day died on May 17, 2013 after battling brain cancer for six months.

So here’s my little stories that I remember about Alan O’day.

My mother worked for Warner Bros. Music from 1974-1981. She knew Alan very well and what I remember of him as a kid was pretty cool thinking back at it.

I remember the day Alan’s song first came on the radio we were on the 90 freeway in Los Angeles heading to my grandmothers house and my mom went nuts when his song came on the radio and said, Alan on the radio shush let’s here it! I was 8 years old.

My second memory of him was being on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand. My mother and I watched it on TV and I still remember it to this day. ( I can’t find any footage of his appearance from American bandstand on YouTube or the Internet) if anyone happens to know where I can find a video of this please let me know I would appreciate it.

Back in the day (the 80’s) Alan used to come over to our house to see my mom and visit. I remember when he would show up because he used to come by wearing his Muppet Babies jacket. Alan did all the music for the Muppet babies TV show back in the 80s for Jim Henson. Alan was a nice guy but also a little reserved.

The last time I saw Alan was in 1989 where my mother convinced him to go to a karaoke bar in Torrance California to sing with her one night. (This is when karaoke was the hottest thing on the planet). So my Mother, Alan, my best friend at the time and I went to this bar. I remember Alan initially didn’t want to get on stage and sing but my mother coaxed him into doing it. The place I remember was packed. He did get up on stage and the song he sang first was Angie baby (He wrote for Helen Reddy). At first people didn’t recognize him but when he started to sing Undercover Angel that’s when things started to kick in. But the song I remember him the most that night was he sang the song Jeremiah was a Bullfrog. Yeah that song! Lol

That’s the only memories I remember of Alan I just wanted to share that little tidbit with everybody since I see so many posts. Nothing big just little memories of him.

+stephen lang it's the beat, swing beat was used to give mild disco flavor to non-disco songs, as 90% of disco used swing beat, that sis, sis, sis, between bass drum and snare drum. With the echo and female group backing vocals it adds to that 70s disco feel.

My father, sister and I drove from Illinois to California in 1980. I think this sing kept my sanity as we navigated nearly 7300 miles and every record-holding ball of string. Wow!!! I didn't realize how good this tune was until I recently rediscovered it. RIP Allen O'day! Thank you for the memories.

It was 1976 when I was 9 years old and I used to run home from school to listen to these 45's stacked up really high on my father's Zenith stereo system and listening these one hits wonders one by one on the headphones. Those were the days!

The irony is Alan O'Day wasn't exactly a young man when he recorded this song (he was 37). Yet it appealed to multiple generations when it was released. 38 years later it still rocks!!

You might've noticed that his albums cut off the top of his forehead in half of the photos. They couldn't hide he was balding all of the time, but they tried. When I first bought the Appetites lp, I thought the cover was of an actor playing a waiter.

With the Son of Sam serial killer of David Berkowitz, the July 1977 blackout, the summer heat in nyc hitting an all time high of 104 degrees, the New York Yankees baseball team winning the World Series, the election of Ed Koch as the new mayor defeating Mayor Abe Beame for his re-election, the famous Saturday Night Fever movie with John Travolta, and the death of Elvis Presley, the king of Rock and Roll in the summer or in August of 1977.

I don't think any other era can top the music from the 70s or 80s . This song takes me back to High School the music , cars , cool clothes , and how ♨️HOT ♨️ the chicks looked in hip hugger bell bottoms halter tops ✌. I'm almost 62 years old now, I started letting my granddaughter when she was just 4 years old , she just turned 12 . Listen to my collection of albums She can sing word for word most any song from Areosmith to ZZ Top ,I told her when I die all of it is hers along with my Pioneer stereo system.

While living in Nasville I worked at a convenient store as a cashier. Alan would come to the store on Monday and Friday morning to buy Double Mint chewing gum and a 40 oz. of Bud Light. If he thought no one was in the store he would tell me stories of his childhood in Hollywood.

"Go Army, beat Navy!" :) Had "Army jumping buddies" at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas. And at "Bad K. or "BK" in Europe. They jumped for extra pay - I and some friends did that for a hobby. They said "we were nuts."

LOVE this song!!! It just puts me in such a great mood! It has that 70's feeling and sound to it in the beginning, and the part where Alan goes ``Alrighhtttt'' is great! It's soothing and a little melancholy, but then when it gets to 2:47, it's like this burst of joy and excitement. It puts a smile on my face every time, I love thinking about my favorite movies where the character succeeds or the characters rejoice or something, it's just fantastic!

I didn't realize it back then, but 1977 was a good year to be a teenager. Music was so much better then than it is today, but back then I kept wishing I could have been a teenager when the Beatles were still together. In fact, two of the former beatles had a song out in 1977, too; crackerbox palace by George Harrison and dose of rock and roll by Ringo Starr both of which were good songs.
