According to him, it is to keep a low profile, but then also stated that the mask is now more of a sign of unity and being alike each other.
Throughout his decade-long and counting career, he amassed over 40M YouTube subscribers - notably being the second most subscribed EDM artist, and 50 billion audio and video streams.
Man On The Moon

Never been as high as tonight
Staring through a window in time
For someone to show me what I'm like
He said, "Hello", it's like a mirror in the sky
And I can see us from up high
Oh boy, we're looking good tonight
I met the man on the moon
On the moon, I heard him saying
I met the man on the moon
On the moon, we'll be okay, yeah
I met the man on the moon, on the moon
I heard him say, yeah
I met the man on the moon, on the moon
We'll be okay, yeah
He said, "Hello", it's like a mirror in the sky
And I can see us from up high
Oh boy, we're looking good tonight
And I just don't understand
I met the man on the moon, on the moon
I heard him say, yeah
I met the man on the moon, on the moon
We'll be okay, yeah
I met the man on the moon, on the moon (on the moon, yeah)
I heard him say, yeah
I met the man on the moon, on the moon (yeah, on the moon)
We'll be okay, yeah
I met the man on the moon, he wore his hat to the side
I met the man on the moon, he asked if I had a light
He told us to hold it together, we're falling apart
He told us to light up the world when we dream in the dark, yeah
I met the man on the moon, on the moon (I met the man on the moon)
I heard him say, yeah
I met the man on the moon, on the moon (I met the man, yeah)
We'll be okay, yeah
Lost
All my tears have turned to dust
Maybe somebody is calling us
The man on the moon, yeah
Just a man on the moon
The lyrics of Alan Walker’s song ‘Man on the Moon’ are a journey of self-discovery through dreams. The song opens with the questions that linger in people’s minds regarding their dreams. They wonder what happens when they fly in dreams and if they’ll ever feel as high as they do in their dream state. The song’s persona has a view of the world from the window of time, and he wishes someone could help him understand himself. Then, he hears a soft voice say hello to him, ‘like a mirror in the sky’. In this connective moment, the persona sees himself as strong and capable, and the man he is talking to helps him understand himself.
The chorus is a reflection of the connection between the persona and the man on the moon, who assures him that no matter what happens, everything will be okay. The persona meets the man on the moon and hears him say that he should light up the world when he dreams. He wears his hat to the side and helps the persona to ‘hold it together,’ even when the world falls apart. In the end, the persona looks to the moon and knows that there is a man up there. It could be just that, or it could be a metaphor that shows that he has come to know himself better, and he feels content in knowing that everything will be okay.
