According to the You Oughta Know Songfacts, the song is rumored to be about the actor Dave Coulier, who Morissette went out with for a while when she was 16 and he was 31 In a 2008 interview with the Calgary Herald, Coulier claimed that this song was about their rocky former relationship

For a little history that don't know her:
Alanis got into acting and on television at 12. She did fairly well.
At 14 she started producing music.
At 15 she recorded some hit songs and got involved with big-shot producers, including the man this song was about.
Alanis (no "Morrissette" at that time) was an up-and-coming dance music star. Look up her video "Too Hot" for her biggest hit of this era.
At 16 she was touring with Madonna.
... then she disappeared for a few years.
Suddenly, at 21, she reappeared with this album, Jagged Little Pill. The rest, as they say, is history.

Jagged Little Pill is one of the best albums of the 90s. I played the shit out of it. Still love it today. This song still blows me away every time, it's so powerful.

@Stephanie Ricketts Because he's an obnoxious jerk. I love Alanis and RHCP. When I first heard Jagged Little Pill, it blew my away. I was around ten years old and to me it is one of the top 10 albums of the '90s, which I think is one of the best decades of music.
