All That Matters
Alaska Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
You’re heart’s been broken and the pieces swept away
Too numb to cry but too sad to hide away
The aching bitterness that’s followed from the day
Once in a lifetime everyone’s gonna walk down the same road
Once in a lifetime everyone’s gotta head out for the same goal
And all that matters is to know that you’re not walking alone
Beyond the bitter sea of endless sacrifice
You hope to get rid of all the pain and all the lies
That wrap your virtues into sadness and disguise
So that you soon will find the strength to roll the dice
Antother lesson learned with noone asking you
You shiver in the cold and hope no déja-vu
Will black out the sky so far above your head
That you will soon forget what you now sadly lack
In Alaska's song "All That Matters," the lyrics describe a person who has experienced heartbreak and is struggling to cope with the pain. The first verse paints a picture of a sunset, a symbol of endings, highlighting the end of the painful day. It then goes on to explain how the person is too numb to cry but is also too sad to hide away. The second verse emphasizes that everyone has to walk down the same road, and everyone has a goal to achieve. In this lifetime, what matters is knowing that one is not alone.
The chorus repeats the phrase "all that matters is to know that you're not walking alone." This line is repeated twice, which serves as a powerful reminder that even though life can be tough, it is important to remember that one is never alone. The third verse talks about how the person is trying to get rid of the pain and lies that shroud their virtues in sadness and disguise. They hope they will soon have the strength to roll the dice, a symbol of taking a chance on life.
All in all, "All That Matters" is an emotional song with a powerful message. It showcases the difficulties that one can face in life and emphasizes that knowing that one is not alone is crucial in overcoming them.
