For The Peace Of All Mankind
Albert Hammond Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
An overnight affair was needed at the time
Hello, goodbye, no searching questions, that was clearly understood
But how was I to know that you would be so good?
For the peace, for the peace, for the peace of all mankind
Will you go away, will you go away, will you vanish from my mind
Will you go away and close the bedroom door
Too much too soon, too bad it didn't hit me till a week had passed
I might have saved the day if I had acted fast
I looked around in case you'd scribbled down the number secretly
But all you left were fingerprints and memories
For the peace, for the peace, for the peace of all mankind
Will you go away, will you go away, will you vanish from my mind
Will you go away and close the bedroom door
And let everything be as it was before
For the peace, for the peace, for the peace of all mankind
Will you go away, will you go away, will you vanish from my mind
Will you go away and close the bedroom door
And let everything be as it was before
Da-di-da, da-da-di, da-da-di-di-di-di-di
Will you go away, will you go away, will you vanish from my mind
Will you go away and close the bedroom door...
The lyrics of Albert Hammond's For The Peace Of All Mankind depict the aftermath of a passionate but brief encounter. The singer is caught up in the heat of the moment and indulges in an overnight affair with someone, without asking too many questions or pondering on the consequences. However, as time passes, the singer realizes that the intimacy they shared was more than just physical and acknowledges their partner's prowess, which they didn't expect. The singer is unsure about what to do next and wonders if it would be better to forget the whole thing and move on, for the sake of their peace of mind.
The song, on the surface, seems to be about love and relationships, but it also touches on the idea of vulnerability and the emotional price one pays for indulging in temporary pleasures. Albert Hammond's powerful vocals add depth to the lyrics, conveying the bittersweet emotions of regret, longing, and resignation.
