Memories
Albert Hammond Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Good times, when all the world was yours and mine
And we were dreaming sweet dreams
It wasnt very long ago, it seems
That dreams were all we had to know
But the good old days dont last
And the dreams, theyre fading fast
And the happiness that you gave to me
I cant forget the way things used to be
And how it still means so much to me
So Im holding onto my memories
I remember two hearts so young that they would never break
Apart, we knew how much to give and take
And I was feeling first love
A love that was so beautiful, your love
Heaven couldnt give me more
But the good old days dont last
And the dreams, theyre fading fast
And all youve left me are my memories
And the happiness that you gave to me
I cant forget the way things used to be
And how you still mean so much to me
And if I see you tonight, Ill try to look the other way
Tonight, theres nothing left for us to say
And all youve left me are my memories
And the happiness that you gave to me
I cant forget the way things used to be
And how you still mean so much to me
And all youve left me are my memories
And the happiness that you gave to me
I cant forget the way things used to be
And how you still mean so much to me
And all youve left me are my memories
And the happiness that you gave to me...
In the song "Memories" by Albert Hammond, the lyrics express feelings of nostalgia and remembrance of the past. The opening lines "I remember good times, when you and I were doing fine" immediately set the tone for the song, as the singer reflects back on happier times. The chorus emphasizes the theme of memories, as the singer sings about holding onto the happiness that was once shared between them. The lyrics also touch on the idea that as time goes on, things change and the past can't be returned to. Despite this, the memories and the love that was once felt still hold a special place in the singer's heart.
The second verse of the song adds detail to the memories being remembered - it was a time when two hearts were young and in love, and everything felt like it would never break apart. The love was so beautiful that it felt like heaven. However, the good times didn't last forever, and the singer acknowledges that the dreams they had together are fading fast. The final verse speaks to the pain of seeing someone again who was once so important but now is just a memory. The lyrics suggest that there's nothing left to say, but the memories and the happiness that was once shared still remain.
Overall, "Memories" is a sentimental and heartfelt song about looking back on a past love, realizing that things have changed, and holding onto the happy memories that were once shared.
