Don't Lie To Me
Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I just can't stand
Evil-hearted woman
And a lyin' man
Don't you lie to me
Now don't you lie to me
Because it makes me mad
When you told me
That you loved me long time ago
The fellow that you got
You don't want him no more
Don't you lie to me
Now don't you lie to me
Because it makes me mad
I get evil as a man can be
You told me
That you loved me long time ago
The fellow that you have
You don't want him no more
Don't you lie to me
Now don't you lie to me
Because it makes me mad
I get evil as a man can be
Don't you lie to me
Don't you lie to me
No, don't lie to me
Now don't you lie to me
Because it makes me mad
I get evil as a man can be
The lyrics of "Don't Lie To Me" by Albert King with Stevie Ray Vaughan describe the singer's frustration towards people who are dishonest, particularly a lying man and an evil-hearted woman. The lyrics portray the singer's anger towards someone who he trusted, but was betrayed by their lies. Throughout the song, the repetition of the phrase "Don't you lie to me" reveals the singer's warning towards those who might deceive him. The lyrics suggest that the singer is not only disheartened by the dishonesty of his companion, but it also has an intense impact on his emotions.
The song gives off a strong message about honesty and integrity. The lyrics show that dishonesty can lead to anger and resentment. As a result, the song conveys an important lesson that honesty is always the best policy. The use of blues music throughout the track contributes to the overall message of the song, as blues is a genre that often depicts the struggles and challenges of everyday life.

I love this more than the studio recording. There is something about two artists totally letting it all out that is purely magical. I play bass, and use this as my warm up to get my old man fingers loosened up ;) Fantastically brilliant musicians the likes of which we will never see again...

One of my favorite all-time SRV jams, period. When Stevie starts soloing at the bottom of the neck, gives me the chills. Of course the camera had to switch angles to the keyboardist whilst he was soloing. Anyway, these two were magical together.
