In fact, her personal history reads almost like the story of Gospel music itself. As a young woman, she was the protege and confidante of Gospel legend Mahalia Jackson. Her career has spanned four decades and beyond and she has seen the release of more than 60 albums. She has received every music award imaginable including Grammy, Stellar and GMWA awards. She has packed churches and concert halls from coast to coast and sold countless records. With a career of over 55 years, she is undisputedly recognized as a pioneer of Gospel music, "The Queen of Gospel.

I've made it in the name of Jesus. A victim of domestic violence and always being beat down and drug to the chains of darkness. I prayed my way to the arms of christ. And escaped that life . Now I wait for the day I get to meet him and all my hard times of sickness and many hospital stays and losing my friends and family one by one and it makes me even stronger in my faith. I'm 29 years old and God has remembered me! He will remember you if you just have the faith of the mustard seed. Praise God.
