Alborosie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Mi neva have much money inna mi pocket
And mi neva finish school
But you no need to feel compassionate of mi
Don't teach I am a fool
Cause I've been writing my own stories
And I've been doing my own trip
Neva believe inna no institution
To set my mind free

Cause what was left
Must come right
Mi still a win the fight
Cause what goes up
Must come down
Here comes my song

(chorus)
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward natty dreadlocks
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward Congo rastaman
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward natty dreadlocks
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward Congo rastaman

So dem neva like my spirituality
And dem neva like my face
So dem try wid di enemies necessary
Just to get mi outta di race
Cause mi neva like their cries
And mi neva accept their cross
I neva feel fi dem meditation
My choice was not a last

Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward natty dreadlocks
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward Congo rastaman
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward natty dreadlocks
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward Congo rastaman

Forward natty dreadlocks
Forward Congo rastaman
Forward natty dreadlocks
Forward Congo rastaman

Mi neva have much money inna mi pocket
And mi neva finish school
But you no need to feel compassionate of mi
Don't teach I am a fool

Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward natty dreadlocks
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward Congo rastaman
Global war
So mi tell I am
Forward natty dreadlocks
Global war

So mi tell I am
Forward Congo rastaman

Overall Meaning

In Alborosie’s song Global War, the lyrics express the idea of rebellion against societal norms and beliefs. The singer starts by saying that he never had much money in his pocket and never finished school, but that he has been writing his own stories and doing his own trip. He doesn’t believe in any institution and doesn’t want to be taught that he is a fool. Instead, he created his own path and set his mind free. He believes that what was left must come right, which means that he will eventually win the fight because what goes up must come down. The chorus repeatedly says “Global War”, which implies a struggle against the world’s inequalities. The use of the word “natty” suggests the celebration of natural black hair, while “Congo Rastaman” represents the African roots of Rastafarianism.

The second verse expresses how society didn’t accept Alborosie’s spirituality and face, and how they tried to eliminate him from the race. He explains that he doesn’t like their cries and doesn’t accept their cross. Alborosie chose a path that wasn’t the last resort or given to him by someone else. He expresses his resistance to society’s pressures and his freedom to do what he chooses. The chorus repeats again, emphasizing the idea of resistance and fighting against global oppression. The song concludes by repeating the beginning of the song, further emphasizing the idea of his own story and choice.
