Alceu Valenca was born in countryside Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil. He is considered the most successful artist in achieving an aesthetic balance between traditional northeastern Brazilian music and a broad range of electronic sounds and effects from pop music. One can find traces of maracatu, coco and "repentes de viola" (improvising fast-paced Brazilian folk music) in most of his songs. Alceu was able to utilize the electric guitar the electric bass, and lately even a synthesizer was added to his broad scope of musical instruments.
Because of that, Alceu was able to recreate Northeastern traditional music, like baiao, coco, toada, maracatu, frevo, caboclinhos, embolada and repentes: all sung with a sometimes rock sometimes alternative sounding music background. His music and his themes are intangible, universal and unlimited. However, his aesthetic basis is genuinely Brazilian Northeastern music.

Com sua flecha, cocar e tacape
A minha amada tem olhos de festa
E o nosso amor é amigo da arte
Dos caboclinhos de Tamandaré
Tejipió Chié
Caboclinho, eu carrego no peito
A minha amada tem olhos de flecha
E o nosso amor é amigo da arte
The song "Amigo da Arte" by Alceu Valença is a beautiful homage to indigenous culture and the power of art to connect people. The lyrics refer to the "Caboclinho," a term used to refer to mixed-race people with indigenous and European ancestry. The singer expresses his admiration for the Caboclinho's traditional attire and weapons, which include a bow and arrow, headdress, and club.
The singer also speaks of his love for his partner, who he describes as having "eyes of festivity" and "eyes of arrow," emphasizing the beauty and strength he sees in her. He then connects this love to the broader theme of art, describing their love as "friend of art." This suggests that their love is strengthened by their shared appreciation for art and the ability of art to connect people from different backgrounds.
Throughout the song, Alceu Valença's poetic language and beautiful melodies create a sense of celebration and unity, encouraging listeners to appreciate and connect with both indigenous culture and the power of art.
