Alceu Valenca was born in countryside Pernambuco, Northeast Brazil. He is considered the most successful artist in achieving an aesthetic balance between traditional northeastern Brazilian music and a broad range of electronic sounds and effects from pop music. One can find traces of maracatu, coco and "repentes de viola" (improvising fast-paced Brazilian folk music) in most of his songs. Alceu was able to utilize the electric guitar the electric bass, and lately even a synthesizer was added to his broad scope of musical instruments.
Because of that, Alceu was able to recreate Northeastern traditional music, like baiao, coco, toada, maracatu, frevo, caboclinhos, embolada and repentes: all sung with a sometimes rock sometimes alternative sounding music background. His music and his themes are intangible, universal and unlimited. However, his aesthetic basis is genuinely Brazilian Northeastern music.

Ouviu-se um ronco e o trovão cantou
Águas rolaram descendo a ladeira
Na quarta-feira meu bem soluçou
Eu disse que vinha
E vou voltar
Eu volto um dia
Para ver as sereias do mar
The lyrics of Alceu Valença's song Trovoada depict the impact of a severe thunderstorm on the main character's loved ones. The rain symbolizes a physical manifestation of tears, as the singer's partner is heard sobbing during the storm. The thunder serves as a reminder of the chaos and confusion that accompanies emotional tumult. The lyrics suggest that the singer will one day return to see the mythical sirens of the sea, indicating a longing for escapism and fantasy in the face of hardship.
The song highlights the cyclical nature of life, with the storm representing a period of intense emotional turmoil that ultimately passes with time. It also touches on the theme of separation and the desire for reunification, as the singer promises to come back to the place where the storm occurred. In this way, the song reflects the universal human experience of navigating difficult times while remaining hopeful for the future.
