He is perhaps best known today for his occult writings, especially The Book of the Law, the central sacred text of Thelema. Crowley was also an influential member in several occult organizations, including the Golden Dawn, the A∴A∴, and Ordo Templi Orientis.

Crowley gained much notoriety during his lifetime, and was famously dubbed "The Wickedest Man In the World."

Crowley boasts to his Swiss Scarlet Whore Leah Hirsig while on cocaine that he is such a powerful priest and magician that he could transform excrements into his Eucharist Host. She calls his bluff (which, later in the entry he admits it was -- "I'm a Coward, and Liar. Leah-Alostrael — my Scarlet Woman — knew it.") So she tells him to go ahead and prove it by eating her shit. He finds himself unable to do so. She taunts him saying that he is no priest if he can't live up to his boast. So he complies. He complains "my mouth burned; my throat choked; my belly retched; my blood fled whither who knows, and my skin sweated.... My teeth grew rotten, my tongue ulcered; raw was my throat, spasm-torn my belly ..."

Interesting, and historically important, can sense a real power in this. He certainly was a controversial figure, and by all accounts, a fascinating and complex man. He was a real practitioner of the Western Tradition of ritual Magick, with an accompanying intellect, a real maverick, and a man of commitment to his chosen path. These are not bad things, and I am a great believer in finding the POSITIVE in everything, and everyone, why not?

@@ashleesherman4933 No need to be sorry, it's good to ask questions. Crowley didn't believe in Satan in the way some Christians do, he saw the depiction of Satan or Lucifer as a kind of warped version of older, pre-Christian gods from different traditions.

He was a poet, a mountain climber, author of many books on occultism and also various fiction. I think one of my favourite quotes would be: "One would go mad if one took the Bible seriously; but to take it seriously one must be already mad."

His religion is a foundation that involves studying all other religions and applying them to your life on Earth. Through his teachings I have learned more about life than I ever imagined.
