In Alesana's song Congratulations I Hate You, the lyrics express someone's bitterness towards another person who has achieved what they themselves have not. The opening lines acknowledge that life isn't fair, but the bitterness truly shows in lines three and four. The singer refuses to be happy for the successful person and wants nothing to do with their pity. The imagery in the next verse is particularly evocative. The successful person is compared to someone hiding behind a veil of lost dreams, and stealing the singer's own thoughts.
