Song information
"The Boy Does Nothing" is the first single taken from The Alesha Show, her first album since her win in the BBC show Strictly Come Dancing. It was written by Dixon and Xenomania. The song itself has a mambo-esque feel to it, and contains lyrics referring to a man who cannot dance and who does no housework.
Music video
The video for "The Boy Does Nothing" is directed by the art director from the film Moulin Rouge!, Michael Gracey. It takes place in a theatre style room, where two children are spying on the floor below. Dixon is dancing on a stage with six other girls dressed in pink. There are also couples around the room dancing along as well. Towards the end of the video, everyone starts to sing the last lines of the songs a cappella, and various male dancers try to impress Dixon with their good dancing.

And when he dances, not to the beat
I really think that he should know
That his rhythms go go go
I got a man with two left feet
And when he dances down to the beat
I really think that he should know
Does he wash up?
Never wash up
Does he clean up?
No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up?
Never brushed up
He does nothing
The boy does nothing
Does he wash up?
Never wash up
Does he clean up?
No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up?
Never brushed up
He does nothing
The boy does nothing
Hey boy
How you been?
I got a thousand lines
Where do I begin?
And I
I been here, been there
Traveling
I saw you at the corner
My vibe kicked in
And
Two two's
I clock you
Wearing tight jeans
A real nice suit
You were smiling like you
Was just seventeen
I asked you for a dance
You said 'yes please'
Take a sip of dancing juice
Everybody's onto you
Through the left and to the right
Everybody hit the rhythm
It's on tonight
I'm gonna feel the beat within my soul
I need a man to take control
Let the melody blow you all away
Does he wash up?
Never wash up
Does he clean up?
No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up?
Never brushed up
He does nothing
The boy does nothing
Does he wash up?
Never wash up
Does he clean up?
No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up?
Never brushed up
He does nothing
The boy does nothing
Work it out now
Work it, Work it out now
Do the mambo
Shake it all around now
Everybody on the floor
Let me see you clap your hands
I wanna see you work
I wanna see you move your body in turn
I wanna see you shake your hips and learn
I wanna see you work it, work it, work it out now
I wanna see you work
I wanna see you move your body in turn
I wanna see you shake your hips and learn
I wanna see you work it, work it, work it out now
Does he wash up?
Never wash up
Does he clean up?
No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up?
Never brushed up
He does nothing
The boy does nothing
Does he wash up?
Never wash up
Does he clean up?
No, he never cleans up
Does he brush up?
Never brushed up
He does nothing
The boy does nothing
And if the man can dance, he gets a second chance
And if the man can dance, he gets a second chance
And if the man can dance, he gets a second chance
And if the man can dance, he gets a second chance
And if the man can dance, he gets a second chance
And if the man can dance, he gets a second chance
The lyrics of Alesha Dixon's "The Boy Does Nothing" tell the story of a man who does nothing productive but likes to dance, even though he has no rhythm. The singer relays her frustration at the man's inability to do anything around the house and suggests that he should focus on improving his dance moves. She tells him that his rhythms go go go, emphasizing his lack of coordination. Although the man does nothing else, the singer decides to give him a second chance if he can show that he can dance.
The chorus of the song focuses on the man's lack of domestic responsibility. She repeats the same questions about whether he washes up, cleans up, or brushes up, and the answer is always no. The line "He does nothing" is repeated throughout the song, underscoring the man's lack of productivity.
In the second verse, the singer describes how she met the man in question and how she asked him to dance. She describes how she noticed his nice suit and tight jeans and how he smiled when she asked him to dance. Despite the fact that the man is not productive, she is still attracted to him.
Overall, the song seems to be a lighthearted meditation on the balance between work and play. While the man may not be productive around the house, he can still have fun and let loose on the dance floor.
