Make It To Christmas

But now we're frozen, hanging by a thread
Can we wait a minute? Or can we just try to try?
'Cause my favorite day is coming up ahead
Darling, I know that our love is going cold
It's just something 'bout the snow
This time of year that makes us lose our way
And hold on a little longer
Don't have me spending it alone
This time of year is precious
Please, can we make it to Christmas?
Can we make it to Christmas?
(Christmastime) can we just make it to Christmas?
(Everything will be alright) can we just make it to Christmas?
(If we just hold on, hold on, hold on) can we just make it to Christmas?
Make it to Christmas
Don't know what I'll say to dad when he sees the empty chair
Don't want to hear my mom say, "Told you so"
Waiting for Santa in my bed's no fun if you're not there
And I don't want to be angry at mistletoes
Darling, I know that our love is going cold
It's just something 'bout the snow
This time of year that makes us lose our way
Just say we'll make up
And hold on a little longer
Don't have me spending it alone
This time of year is precious
Please, can we make it to Christmas?
Can we make it to Christmas?
(Christmastime) can we just make it to Christmas?
(Everything will be alright) can we just make it to Christmas?
(If we just hold on, hold on, hold on) can we just make it to Christmas?
Make it to Christmas
(Christmastime) can we just make it to Christmas?
(Everything will be alright) can we just make it to Christmas?
(If we just hold on, hold on, hold on) can we just make it to Christmas?
Darling, I know that our love is going cold
It's just something 'bout the snow
This time of year that makes us lose our way
Just say we'll make up
And hold on a little longer
Don't have me spending it alone
This time of year is precious
Break my heart on boxing day
Just, please, can we make it to Christmas?
(Christmastime) yeah, yeah
(Everything will be alright)
(If we just hold on, hold on, hold on)
yeah, yeah
(Christmastime)
(Everything will be alright)
(If we just hold on, hold on, hold on)
Make it to Christmas
The lyrics of Alessia Cara’s “Make It To Christmas” are a plea to salvage a relationship that is on the brink of falling apart. The singer conveys her deep sense of loss and longing for the way things could be. She recalls a time when they were “warm and wonderful,” but now they are “frozen, hanging by a thread.” The singer implores her partner to try and make it work, to hold on “a little longer” and not have her “spending it alone.” The holidays mean everything to her, and she doesn’t want to let go of the hope for a beautiful Christmas.
The winter season has put a damper on their love, which is growing colder as the snow falls. She worries about things like an empty chair at the dinner table and missing her partner’s presence while waiting for Santa. The singer is afraid of being angry at mistletoe and wants to treasure the precious time of year with her loved one. She emphasizes that it’s all about “making it to Christmas” - the idea of hanging on long enough until they can both feel that magical Christmas spirit and rekindle the warmth of their love.
The song’s lyrics are relatable to many people who are going through difficulties in their relationships during the holiday season. It highlights the importance of making an effort to heal a relationship and embrace the holiday spirit of love, warmth, and togetherness. The songstress has portrayed the struggles of a couple trying to work out the flaws in their relationship during the holiday season, making it a wonderful addition to holiday playlists.
