October
Alessia Cara Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

5AM the moon went to sleep
Your friend speaking in tongues in the back seat
Just one little glance, I know what you mean somehow

We're stealing moments, moments away
Why are we just not as good in the day?
Is it too soon to know if it's too soon to say for now?
The bubble we're living in
Setting me free again
I don't know what it is about this

I'm gonna miss it when it's over
Yeah, yeah
I hope we never see October
Yeah, yeah
I felt the weight fall off my shoulders
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna miss this when it's
I'm gonna miss you when it's done

Can't feel my hands, you laugh like you do
It happened like that according to you
It's only a month, but doesn't feel new somehow
Yeah, yeah

Bubble we're living in
Setting me free again
I don't know what it is about this

I'm gonna miss it when it's over
Yeah, yeah
I hope we never see October
Yeah, yeah
I felt the weight fall off my shoulders
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna miss this when it's
I'm gonna miss
I'm gonna miss it when it's over
Yeah, yeah
I hope we never see October
Yeah, yeah
I felt the weight fall off my shoulders
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna miss this when it's
I'm gonna miss you when it's done

Paint a picture in my brain, encapsulate the fleeting feeling
It ricochets, replace my pain 'til every trace is leaving
The nerve of autumn time days flying by, every sunrise healing me
And we're okay, we'll live this way 'til it's done

I'm gonna miss this when it's over
I hope we never see October
I felt the weight fall off my shoulders
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna miss this when it's
I'm gonna miss
I'm gonna miss this when it's over
Yeah, yeah
I hope we never see October
Yeah, yeah
I felt the weight fall off my shoulders
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I'm gonna miss this when it's
I'm gonna miss you when it's done

I'm gonna miss you when it's done

Overall Meaning

In the song "October" by Alessia Cara, she sings about a love that begins and intensifies during a specific month of the year, and the fear of losing that feeling when the month ends. The first verse describes a late-night drive with a friend who is speaking incoherently in the backseat while the moon sets in the horizon. Despite the friend's behavior, the singer and her significant other share a connection that needs no words to be understood. They steal secret moments together, but there's a question of whether their love can withstand the light of day. The singer acknowledges that the relationship may not last forever, but she's afraid of losing the spark they have in the moment.

The chorus repeats a sentiment of the singer's fear of the end of October, not wanting to say goodbye to the moment they are currently living in. The love between the singer and her significant other provides an escape from the troubles of the world; they live in a bubble that is freeing, and she doesn't understand what exactly is causing her to feel so deeply for this person. When the song reaches the bridge, the singer illustrates the transitory nature of all things, even the beauty of autumn, but she also acknowledges the power of healing that comes from each new day. The final chorus repeats the singer's fear of losing the feeling that's between her and her significant other.

I can’t explain how this makes me feel. It’s almost like a feeling of missing something that I didn’t know I lost, but now I can’t stop trying to figure out what it is and where it is. It doesn’t make any sense
