Rooting For You
Alessia Cara Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Got me feelin' like the elephant
In every room I'm walking into, yeah
We started out innocent
'Til I got pulled right into your issue, yeah

I'm tired of sending hugs and kisses, oh
I'm tired of all your burnin' bridges
It's like, damn
Why you gotta be so cold in the summertime, summertime?
I was really rooting for ya, yeah
I was really rooting for ya, yeah yeah
It's like, man
Why you gotta be so cold in the summertime, summertime?
I was really rooting for ya
We were really rooting for ya, yeah yeah yeah

Now I see you're havin' so much fun with everyone
You had so much fun makin' fun of
Did you go and bump your head?
Did you forget where you came from?

I'm tired of sending my well wishes
I'm tired of all your burnin' bridges, yeah

It's like, damn
Why you gotta be so cold in the summertime, summertime?
I was really rooting for ya, yeah
I was really rooting for ya, yeah yeah
It's like, man
Why you gotta be so cold in the summertime, summertime?
I was really rooting for ya
We were really rooting for ya, yeah yeah yeah

I'm not even brokenhearted (nah, nah)
I'm just a little disappointed (nah, nah)
What a shame, we could've had a good thing
You let go of a good thing

It's like, damn
Why you gotta be so cold in the summertime, summertime?
I was really rooting for ya, yeah yeah
I was really rooting for ya
Oh, I was really rooting for ya
It's like, damn, damn
Why you gotta be so cold in the summertime, summertime? (In the summertime, in the summertime)
I was really rooting for ya, oh no
We were really rooting for ya, yeah yeah (we were really rooting for ya)
It's like damn
Why you gotta be so cold?

Why?
I was really, I was really rooting for ya

Let’s get one thing straight:
She’s easily the most underrated and slept on singer of this generation. Coming from someone who’s very much a rap fan and rarely ever listens to pop music, let alone any modern day pop music, I don’t think she’s ever dropped a bad song. Literally all her albums are underrated and borderline bangers you play when the homies aren’t around (if you’re a dude like me), 2021 literally proved she’s still one of the best in the game, the two songs were really nice, but somehow gets dismissed for the same generic bullshit you hear literally every other singer do. Honestly, it’s flat out lunacy. When you maintain a level that won you a Grammy and you’re not getting the praise or hype you deserve, it goes to show how ass-backwards music society is today. Hopefully this new project puts her back on the map. It’s gonna be crazy.

Well said, I feel the same way.

hello emo, i'd just like to say: that would be the exact same situation as if Hitler won the war and destroyed everyone who wasn't the same race as him. Now, this is my opinion and in no way should you feel the need to write back an angry comment to me. Also my opinion: fuck you and have a shitty life!
