Born February 10, 1962, in Shanghai, his family moved to Hong Kong then later to Canada. Although born Tak Wai To, he adopted the English name and most often performs as Alex To.

Alex has an extensive acting career in Asia, which he began at the age of eighteen. In the first decade he has appeared in numerous movies and soap operas, and had a brief cameo in Jackie Chan's 1995 US hit, Rumble in the Bronx, in the ice cream vendor scene.

As a singer, Alex tends to favor R& B influenced songs, doing original material as well as Chinese covers of US and international hits.
