Velvet Elvis
Alex Winston Lyrics

Ma said, I ain't right
Clutching on you all night
But you're my, you're my guy, Elvis

Slice my starry eye
Light his coat in turpentine
Kill the bitch that bats an eye, Elvis
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
Hold your frame, whisper your name
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
And you don't breathe, so you can't leave

And they're comin'
They're comin'
They're comin'
Whoaa no

(Touch) Shackled arms are tight, cause' papa said I cross the line
Carve us in our special time, Elvis
Now it's five by five
Finger paint and circle time
I love you till the day I die, Elvis

When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
Hold your frame, whisper your name
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
And you don't breathe, so you can't leave

And they're comin'
They're comin'
They're comin'
Whoaa no

When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
Hold you by the frame, whisper your name
When I feel your velvet, I can't help it
And you don't breathe, so you can't leave

And they're comin'
They're comin'
They're comin'
Whoaa no

And they're comin' (When I feel your velvet, I can't help it)
They're comin'
They're comin'
Whoaa no

And they're comin' (When I feel your velvet, I can't help it)
They're comin'

They're comin'
Whoaa no

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Velvet Elvis" by Alex Winston are a mix of disturbing and captivating imagery. The singer talks about her obsession with Elvis Presley, who is referred to as her "guy." She mentions how her mother thinks she's not normal because she is always holding onto her "guy" all night long. The line "slice my starry eye" is perplexing, but it seems to indicate that the singer is so consumed by her love for Elvis that she's willing to hurt herself. Similarly, the weirdly violent lines "light his coat in turpentine" and "kill the bitch that bats an eye" suggest a strong sense of possessiveness and anger.

Despite the disturbing overtones, there's an undeniable sensuality in the song as well. When the singer feels Elvis's velvet, she can't help but touch him and whisper his name. There's a sense that Elvis is an object of desire and that the singer's obsession with him is bordering on dangerous. The repeated refrain of "they're comin'" adds to the ominous tone of the song, suggesting that there's a sense of inevitability to what's happening.

Overall, "Velvet Elvis" is a hauntingly beautiful song that mixes dark themes with compelling melodies. It's a song that invites interpretation and reflection, challenging the listener to consider the nature of obsession and love.

I’d forgotten all about this delightful song until it popped into my head this morning. It took me a while to recall the name, but I eventually did so here I am. :)

Hearing it reminds me of simpler times when the darkness of today’s world was still the stuff of movies...

Same happened to me today, had to Google "kill the bitch" lyrics and find it that way :)

As much as I agree that she deserves more recognition, sometimes it's nicer to have good music less well known. By that, I mean that the radio stations can't overplay it and ruin it XD Still an amazing song, though!

ivo kostić

i can loop good songs endlessly, so they can't ruin it for me at all.
they can't even loop it 2 times! <wink>

ivo kostić thats a good point, if a song is that good then the repetition shouldn't ruin it :P
