Oh God I don't want to lose you
But I am so confused
I have been so abused
But I'll cling to you
Cling to you
Help
Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Because I don't know what to do
Free
Free
That I'm Free
Oh that I'm Free
Help
Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Because I don't know what to do
Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Because I don't know what to do
God I need you now
Pick me up off the ground
Father you are all that I have
Help
Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Because I don't know what to do
Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Because I don't know what to do
Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Because I don't know what you to do
Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth
Because I don't know what you to do
The lyrics of Alexander's song "Truth" are an emotional plea to Jesus for guidance and understanding during a time of confusion and pain. The singer expresses their desperate need for Jesus to tell them the truth about what to do, as they feel lost given the abuse they have experienced. Despite this, they also express their willingness to cling to Jesus and their belief in Him as their only source of help.
The repetition of "Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth / Because I don't know what to do" emphasizes the singer's desperation for guidance and answers. The repetition of "Free" and "That I'm Free / Oh that I'm Free" reflects the singer's desire to be released from the pain and confusion they are experiencing. The final repetition of "Jesus won't you tell me the truth / Because I don't know what you to do / Please Jesus won't you tell me the truth" encapsulates the whole song, underscoring the singer's desperate need for Jesus to reveal the truth to them.
In "Truth," Alexander speaks to the pain and confusion that so many people experience daily. The song takes a prayerful approach, calling out to God for help and guidance. The song reminds us that the only help we truly have is from Christ, and raises the question of whether this dependence is ultimately a source of freedom. The combination of meaningful lyrics and a soothing melody make "Truth" a timeless piece that is relatable to many people facing hardships in their lives.

LYRICS:
The truth is that I never shook my shadow
And every day it's trying to trick me into doing battle
Calling out "faker" only get me rattled
Want to pull me back behind the fence with the cattle
Building your lenses
Digging your trenches
Put me on the front line
Leave me with a dumb mind
With no defenses
But your defenseless
If you can't stand to feel the pain then you are senseless
Since this
I've grown up some
Different kind of fighter
And when the darkness come let it inside you
Your darkness is shining
My darkness is shining
Have faith in myself
Truth
I've seen a million numbered doors on the horizon
Now which is the future you choosin' before you gone dying?
I'll tell you 'bout a secret I've been undermining
Every little lie in this world come from dividing
Say you're my lover, say you're my homie
Tilt my chin back, slit my throat, take a bath in my blood, get to know me
All out of my secrets
All my enemies are turning into my teachers
Because, lights blinding, no way dividing what's yours or mine when everything's shining
You darkness is shining, my darkness is shining
Have faith in ourselves
Truth
Yes, I'm only loving, only trying to only love
That's what I'm trying to do is only loving
Yes, I'm only loving, trying only loving, I swear to God
I'm only trying to do the loving
Yes, I'm only lonely, I've been missing all my feeling
Only loving, only loving
You say it ain't loving ain't loving my loving my loving
But I'm only loving, swear only loving, swear to God I'm only loving
Trying only loving, only loving, only loving, only loving, only loving
Yes, I'm only loving, swear only loving, swear to God I'm only loving, only loving
See, I'm only loving, loving, loving, loving, loving my love
But I'm only loving, loving, loving, loving the truth

Faada Freddy did an amazing cover of this as well. That said, I see this lyric all the time:
Building your lenses
Digging your trenches
Put me on the front line
...
Building your "lenses" doesn't make any sense. To me, it sounds like he is saying: "Building your lances". This part of the song is seems to be analogous with war, the talk about digging trenches, being put on the front line... lances makes the most sense unless there is some element of this I'm not understanding.
