FYI: Originally Alexander O'Neal was supposed to be the lead singer for The Time. For whatever reason Morris Day was used instead.
The 1985 self-titled release was filled with streamlined grooves, including the funk jam "Innocent". The song was a funky Jam/Lewis groove, featuring "The Secret"- (Monte Moir, Cherrelle, Jellybean Johnson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis). The song lasts for nearly 10 minutes, which consists of some exceptional guitar and keyboard solos, which also features the funk intermission of "Alex 9000". Alex's 1987 release, titled "Hearsay", includes the smash hit "Fake". "Fake" is arguably one of the best songs ever made to feature the "Minneapolis Funk" sound, the song was also nominated for a Soul Train Music Award for Single of the Year (Male). In late 1990, he had a minor hit with "All True Man."
His 1988 album "My Gift to You" was a successful holiday release, with the track "Our First Christmas" still popular during the holidays.
He has recently appeared in the celebrity duet show Just the Two of Us with BBC newsreader Fiona Bruce.
Alexander O'Neal's popularity and support in the UK has been immeasurable throughout his Career and still remains so today. Alexander O'Neal Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I think you're the girl for me
Not used up, you're still tight
We should hit it off
And she said you?re too fast
It won?t last
You can call me
You're just what I'm looking for
A girl that's not so fast she can't slow down
Without too much experience
You fit the bill 'cause you're so innocent
Innocent
Innocent, I?m looking for a girl who's
Innocent girl, innocent
Innocent
Got a lotta love
Got a lotta love for you
Just say it?s alright
And I will give it all to you, oh
Should I go
Lose control
Or should I stay
Innocent
You don't have to be so cautious
Every time I ask, you turn me down
All I want to do is love you
It can?t be all bad, I just want someone who's
Innocent, innocent
Innocent, looking for a girl who's
Innocent, so, so, so, so
Innocent, oh
Innocent, baby, baby, baby
Innocent, that's what you are
Innocent, so, so, so, so
Innocent, I want you for my lady
Innocent, oh girl
Innocent, baby, you are
Innocent
Innocent, baby, baby, yeah
Innocent
Innocent
Innocent
Innocent girl for me, for me, girl
Innocent girl
Innocent
Innocent girl
Innocent
Innocent, oh yeah
Innocent, yeah
Innocent
Innocent girl
Innocent, that's the kind of girl for me
Innocent, I'm looking for a girl who's
Innocent, you're sure to lose your
Innocent girl, oh girl, why don't you slap me?

The lyrics to Alexander O'Neal's "Innocent" are about a man who is looking for a woman who is young and inexperienced. He describes her as "not used up" and "still tight", indicating that he is looking for someone who hasn't had many sexual experiences. The woman he is interested in expresses caution and tells him that they are moving too fast, but he insists that he wants someone who is "innocent". He tries to convince her to let her guard down and trust him, telling her that he has a lot of love to give and just wants to love her.
The song can be interpreted in different ways depending on the listener's perspective. Some may see it as a romantic expression of a man who is looking for a genuine and pure connection with a woman, while others may view it as a manipulative and predatory attempt to take advantage of someone's naivety.

He would have been the lead singer of The Time. He just asked for too much money. Morris Day confirms it in an interview.
