FYI: Originally Alexander O'Neal was supposed to be the lead singer for The Time. For whatever reason Morris Day was used instead.
The 1985 self-titled release was filled with streamlined grooves, including the funk jam "Innocent". The song was a funky Jam/Lewis groove, featuring "The Secret"- (Monte Moir, Cherrelle, Jellybean Johnson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis). The song lasts for nearly 10 minutes, which consists of some exceptional guitar and keyboard solos, which also features the funk intermission of "Alex 9000". Alex's 1987 release, titled "Hearsay", includes the smash hit "Fake". "Fake" is arguably one of the best songs ever made to feature the "Minneapolis Funk" sound, the song was also nominated for a Soul Train Music Award for Single of the Year (Male). In late 1990, he had a minor hit with "All True Man."
His 1988 album "My Gift to You" was a successful holiday release, with the track "Our First Christmas" still popular during the holidays.

but now it's Kay
Girl
you seem to change it every day.
Your hair was long
but now it's short
You say: I got it cut
but I don't see no hair upon the floor.
You're a fake
baby
you can't conceal it
Know how I know
'cause I can feel it.
You're a fake
baby
no rhyme or reason
'Cause in your mind it's lyin' season.
You had brown eyes
but now they're blue
Those false eyelashes that you're wearin'
too.
In bed this morning you called me CIyde
Alex is the name that I go by!
If women could be counterfit
then you'd be it.
You're a fake
baby
you can't conceal it
. . .
You're a fake
baby
I've blown your cover
the iig is up
'cause I discovered -
You're a fake
baby
no need to hide it
Can't change my mind
'cause I've decided -
You're a fake
baby
and I'm disgusted
The game is through and
girl
you're busted
fake!
Whenever I go out with you I find out something new.
You're a fake
you always have a good excuse
But
girl
that ain't no use.
You're a fake
baby
you can't conceal it
. . .
You're a fake
baby
no rhyme or reason
. . .
You're a fake
baby
Fake
fake!
The song 'Fake' by Alexander O'Neal is about a woman who is not true to herself, constantly changing her identity and appearance to fit in with different situations and people. The singer of the song, the singer himself, calls her out on her fakeness and confronts her about it.
The lyrics highlight various aspects of the woman's fake persona, such as her changing name, hair length, eye color, and even the false eyelashes she wears. The singer also reveals that she called him by the wrong name in bed, further adding to her dishonesty. He expresses his disgust with her behavior and admits that he has blown her cover.
The song's rhythm and beat are soulful and upbeat, with the use of horns and percussion giving it an energetic and lively feel, contrasting with the serious and confrontational tone of the lyrics.
