When the Sun
Alexander Popov Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Silence sleeps into my world
And it follows into my dreams
Moonbeams flicker across the room
And in the twilight
Your thoughts will be broken

And when the sun goes down
A shadow is cast on this town
And when the sun goes down
The night way's free

And when the sun goes down
The night way's free

Your dreams echo my mind sight
In this daylight into the sky
Some kind crossing the water
Wait me in sunlight
And rest in your arms

And when the sun goes down
A shadow is cast on this town

And when the sun goes down
The night way's free

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Alexander Popov's song 'When The Sun' seem to reflect a sense of longing and desire for the night. The opening lines "Silence sleeps into my world, and it follows into my dreams" suggests a desire to escape the noise and distractions of reality, perhaps to enter a more peaceful and introspective state of mind. The following line "moonbeams flicker across the room" furthers that sentiment, with the image of the moon providing a source of comfort and guidance in the darkness.

The lyrics then shift to a focus on thoughts and dreams, with the line "your thoughts will be broken" potentially alluding to the idea of a broken heart or a lost love. This sorrowful tone is contradicted by the chorus, which seems to celebrate the idea of the night bringing freedom and possibility. The repetition of the line "and when the sun goes down, the night way's free" reinforces this idea of a new beginning once the day is done.

The final lines of the song, "your dreams echo my mind sight, in this daylight into the sky, some kind crossing the water, wait me in sunlight, and rest in your arms" suggest a final sense of resolution and peace. The singer seems to have found solace in the night, with dreams and memories of a loved one bringing them comfort even as they look towards a new day.

RIP Liv Carlson, vocalist on this track. I was with her when we went back to her birth place in Greenland when she wrote the lyrics to this beautiful song. The song is about living so far North where she grew up, how half of the year is in night and half is in lots of daylight. Liv herself was born in December during the polar night in Upernavik, Greenland, and she moved here to the UK in 1990 at age 9. I miss you my friend, and will forever thank Alexander Popov and Armada for allowing Liv to do this song, which meant so much to her. Friends to the end, Liv!

Я всегда считал, что вокальную партию исполнила Кейт Уолш, голос очень похож.

@@user-rr3ch9ge7m I don't understand your reply, I don't speak Armenian.

@@user-rr3ch9ge7m Yeah, I wish I spoke your language, I'm sure it's beautiful, but I don't want to trust AI translations as they aren't always accurate. Any speakers of Armenian, Russian, or Ukrainian, or whichever language this is, can you confirm accuracy of translation please? AI says "I always thought that the vocals were performed by Kate Walsh because the vocals sound exactly like hers."
If that is the correct translation, then our friend here is incorrect. Kate Walsh is from Southern England, and has no connection to the North, as opposed to Liv.
I was with Liv when she wrote these lyrics for this song. Her and I were close friends.
I hope the AI translation was accurate though so I'm not replying to something I misunderstand.
Thanks.

@@ChasityVanDenBogerd-uu4vw I apologize, I was just hoping for a translator in the comments on You Tube (there is a button under each comment: “translate”), my language is Russian. Thank you for your answer, yes, you absolutely understood my comment, now I will know the real artist. But the voices are really similar and even the manner of performance.
