Wait
Alexi Murdoch Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Feel I'm on the verge of some great trail
Where I'm finally in my place
But I'm fumbling still full proof
And it's cluttering my space
Casting shadows on my face

Though I have the strength to move a hill
I can hardly leave my room
So I sit perfectly still
And I'll listen for a tune
While my mind is on the moon

And If I stumble, and if I stall
And if I slip now, and if I should fall
And if I can't be, all that I could be
Will you? Will you wait for me?

Cause everywhere I seem to be
I am only passing through
I dream these days are about the sea
I always wake up feeling blue
Wishing I could dream of you

So if I stumble, and If I fall
And if I slip now, and loose it all
And if I can't be, all that I could be
Will you? Will you wait for me?

And wait for me
And wait for me
And wait for me
Won't you wait for me?

And wait for me
Please wait for me
Please wait for me
Won't wait for me

And wait for me
Please wait for me
Please wait for me
Won't you wait for me?

And wait for me
Please wait for me
Please wait for me
Won't you wait for me?

And wait for me
Please wait for me
Please wait for me
Won't you wait for me?

Please wait for me
Please wait for me

Please wait for me
Won't you wait for me?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Alexi Murdoch's song "Wait" explore the experiences of the singer, who feels as though they are on the verge of making something of themselves. Though they possess the strength to move mountains, they are bogged down by a sense of insecurity and feel as though they are just passing through life with a lack of direction. The singer admits to being clutter-prone and stuck in a rut, casting shadows on their face. They express a deep desire to find meaning and purpose in their life but are struggling to do so.

In the chorus of "Wait," the singer asks if someone will wait for them while they stumble, stall, slip or fall. They want to know if someone will stand by them on their journey, even as they struggle to find their way. The song ends with a plea for someone to wait for them and their hopes that they can eventually be all they can be.

This song is an anthem for anyone who has ever struggled with a lack of direction or self-doubt. Murdoch's lyrics are deeply relatable and seemingly honest, capturing the frustration and confusion that come with being unsure of oneself. Despite the singer's sense of despair and insecurity, the song ultimately ends on a hopeful note, suggesting that by sticking with one's journey, one can eventually find their true purpose and place in the world.

I played this for my daughter while in my belly, then after while she was in the NICU, and still to this day. I still cry when I play it, but they are not sad tears anymore.

@Patrick_Cooper

My first son was born, at 26 weeks. One pound 2 Oz. It was a scary time for us, but faith and prayers got us through. Today, Kyle is 24 and although small of stature, only 4' 8" but every bit as loving as any father could hope from a child. He was not supposed to live this long, but despite the fucking doctors who told us differently, he is going strong, and a strong man of God.
And the F word is used in this case correctly. They had no clue, about my boy. He ripped the nasal prongs from his nose within a few hours of being born. " I don't need your help, I have God on my side." At least that's how I saw it, after a harrowing 3 hour drive through a snow storm over the Cascade Mountains in Washington...

@@Patrick_Cooper Thank you so much Patrick. Leave it or not, just made me feel so much better. She is approaching three and we are aging out of early intervention. I'm terrified. there's no way she can go to school right now with the virus stuff but when she does, I'm your typical mama. I'm going to be a nervous wreck lol. I was so worried about what's going to happen to her in the future but you helped. Thank you for giving my family some hope and may God bless you and yours. Stay safe and well during such difficult times.
