Her solo-album "Cocoon" received an official release of sorts in May 2006, when it was released on iTunes. The digital version featured both the original and album versions of "Go My Own Way", the single version of "It Could Be You", and the previously unreleased "The Starting Line".
In May 2006, Strum made an announcement that she would be undergoing surgery, and would be unable to return to work until September 2006, when she had recovered. In September 2006 Alexis posted a message on MySpace stating that all was well with her health. She also added a note saying that her album will not be released as was planned and that she is taking herself out of the music scene. "I have decided after this big lifechange that I need to address my priorities and do sthg different for a bit- time for a new challenge! Challenge Strum!".
Go My Own Way

Somehow, minds are hard to change
Ordinary lives-
You don't think twice
Maybe the lights got stuck on red
But I turned a corner in my head
I'm breaking the ties instead-
I'll go my own way
Na na na na na na
Na na na…
Easy to give in
Somehow grow a thicker skin
Harder to go on
But I'll be strong
Maybe the lights got stuck on red
But I turned a corner in my head
I won't be waiting, patient
I'm breaking the ties instead-
I'll go my own way
Na na na na na na
Na na na…
Who am I to say
When my star will rise and fade?
Oh who am I to say
We'll be ok?
Got me singing…
Na na na na na na
Na na na…
The lyrics of Alexis Strum's song Go My Own Way seem to be about someone who is tired of living an ordinary life and decides to break free from the routine. The singer talks about how it's easy to get stuck in your ways and not want to change, even when you know it's not fulfilling. However, the singer has made a decision to break free and "go my own way" despite the uncertainty that lies ahead. The repetition of "Na na na" towards the end signifies a sense of liberation and joy that comes with taking control over your life.
The line "Maybe the lights got stuck on red, But I turned a corner in my head" is a metaphor for being stuck in a particular mindset or situation. A red light represents something that's not moving forward or stopping progress, but once the singer changes their thinking, they are able to move forward and take charge of their life. The singer is taking a risk by choosing to go their own way but believes it's worth it.
Overall, the song is about taking a leap of faith and going after what you truly want out of life. It's about not letting fear or the status quo dictate your choices, and ultimately trusting yourself to make the best decisions for your own happiness.

What an eternal bop. What a song writer and general pop person.

I'm obsessed with her voice during the "tell me will you miss me when I'm in your history" line for some reason.

I really hope one day, she'll release her own album! The songs from "Cocoon" are great! She's a great songwriter and performer.

I always found their voices pretty similar in this one. Mostly cause Rachel used Alexis' voice as back vocals for hers. They're both VERY good. Alexis gets the credit for writing it, Rachel gets the points for giving it that extra hmpf!

Love the funk part in the second verse! Her voice sounds more childlike than Rachel's and it is demo-ish but the song's good regardless.

I love this song! This version is so much better than the Rachel Stevens one.

It's pretty straightforward. A girl reluctantly breaking up with her boyfriend - she doesn't want to, but thinks it'll be for the best.
