The band’s name is inspired by a lactating contortionist stripper named Alexis Fire. This caused problems when she discovered that they were using her website name (alexisonfire.com) as their band name, and threatened to sue. However, since she had never trademarked the title nothing became of these threats. In the end, the band decided to change their website’s URL in spite to theonlybandever.com
Alexisonfire’s lyrical topics range from relationship troubles to go-karting. They have two primary vocalists, screaming duties carried out by George Pettit, and singing by Dallas Green, with support from Wade MacNeil.
While their largest fanbase is in their home country of Canada, they also became more popular in other parts of the world, including Japan, Australia, Europe and the US. In the second half of 2010, they toured Australia with Break Even, Europe with Chickenhawk and The Computers and then Canada with Norma Jean and La Dispute.
The band was nominated for "ugliest rock band ever" at the CASBY awards (held by local Toronto radio station) but lost out to another Canadian born band, Sum 41. In 2010 they then won the "Best New Single" Award for their track The Northern.

Crisis
Alexisonfire Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
This town is going under
The temperature's through the floor
Your fingers are turning black
There's a crisis knocking at your door
(One nine seven seven)
(One nine seven seven)
You'd better try to make it home
The snow is getting too deep to drive
Your car might be your coffin
(One nine seven seven)
(One nine seven seven)
We're never going to see the summer
This season's coming long and hard
Yeah, this town is going under
This season's going to kill us all
Count the snow flakes, little children
Count them as they bury you alive
Count them as they choke the road ways
A blizzard's coming in the year punk died
(One nine seven seven)
This season's left us all helpless
I can't see and even God is blind
And deaf to all your prayers
(One nine seven seven)
(One nine seven seven)
There's nothing that you can do
This weather's stronger than us all
The sky is going to crush you
(One nine seven seven)
(One nine seven seven)
This season's growing cold
I fear that this could be the end
And there's no sign of hope
We've got a crisis on our hands
The junkie is trapped indoors
Pretty soon he's going to need a fix
But the weather's not going to let him
And he's starting to get the itch
This season's holding us all hostage
Better do whatever it demands
Carter knows that we've got a crisis
Weighing on our frost bitten hands
(One) There's nothing that you can do
The sky is going to crush you
(Nine) There's nothing that you can do
The sky is going to crush you
(Seven) There's nothing that you can do
The sky is going to crush you
(Seven) There's nothing that you can do
The sky is going to crush you
This season's growing cold
I fear that this could be the end
And there's no sign of hope
We've got a crisis on our hands
The lyrics to Alexisonfire's song "Crisis" paints a vivid picture of a small town experiencing a harsh winter. The opening line "This town is going under" sets the gloomy tone of the song, and the following lines describe the severity of the cold weather - "The temperature's through the floor," "Your fingers are turning black." The repetition of "One nine seven seven," which is likely a reference to the "Blizzard of '77," further emphasizes the intensity of the snowstorm. The lyrics also depict the struggle of the townspeople to survive the winter - "Your car might be your coffin," "Count them as they bury you alive." The chorus repeats the phrase "This season's going to kill us all," adding to the bleakness of the situation.
The song also touches on the impact this crisis has on individuals, particularly a junkie who is trapped indoors and unable to obtain their fix. The lyrics suggest that this season is holding everyone in the town hostage, and that they must do everything they can to survive - "Better do whatever it demands." The song ends on a note of hopelessness, with the lyrics "I fear that this could be the end, and there's no sign of hope."
Overall, "Crisis" is a powerful song that captures the dire consequences of a harsh winter on a small town. Through its vivid imagery and strong message, the lyrics convey the urgency and desperation of those affected by the crisis.

I live in Calgary. This song represents how I feel every winter (most of the year).
Andrew Nodwell
Calgary is fake winter. It's around 0 for most of it now. Go up to Fort Mac for real winter
Ellie Lewis
@Andrew Nodwell "Fake winter" lmfao
TheDullahan
@Ellie Lewis to be fair Calgary winters aren't any colder than many places WAY further south. It's pretty much the least severe winter you can experience anywhere on the globe.
Alex Bishop
it was a event in winter of 1977 when a massive wind storm came and blew A LOT of snow off the frozen surface of the Great Lakes and dumped it all on to the city of Buffalo New York people got buried in their cars and stuff it was crazy
BlazedLangermann
Alex Bishop wtf
Jerimiah Stephens
Happened all over the great lakes not just buffalo
TheDullahan
This song isn't about what happened in Buffalo. Weird flex, but OK.
Cole Nollavook
@TheDullahan what do you mean it’s not? The song has several references to 1977 and the album cover is literally one of the frostbite victims from the storm
