Door
Alfa Mist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Something there in the corner of my eye
Hidden beneath the sun-kissed sky
Swaying off the trees were the vines
They look like braids in the moonlight
Lights off but cars outside
Is this place still vacant tonight?

Turn the handle just to see what's inside, but, oh
But, oh, to my surprise

It was fate, it was us
When you opened that door
Hold on for me
It's the faith in our love
When I reached out for more
Hold on for me

Something sad seemed to reason with my doubt
Guiding me through the hideout
Thread me a lifeline before I drown
I've been here for a while now
Lights off in the rest of town
Still vacant in the early hours

Turn the handle just to see what's out, but, oh
But oh, to my surprise

It was fate, it was us
When you opened that door
Hold on for me
It's the faith in our love
When I reached out for more
Hold on for me

It was fate, it was us
When you opened that door
Hold on for me
It's the faith in our love
When I reached out for more
Hold on for me

Hold on for me (hold on)
Hold on for me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Alfa Mist's song "Door" describe a situation where the singer comes across an abandoned place, and, despite his initial hesitation, decides to go inside. He seems anxious, noticing things that catch his eye, such as the swaying vines that look like braids in the moonlight. There's a sense of ambiguity and unease as he wonders if the place is still vacant tonight, but he eventually musters the courage to turn the handle and see what's behind that door. To his surprise, he finds himself face to face with fate, and the person who would become his lover. It is the faith in their love that compels him to hold on, even when faced with doubt and sadness.

The song is full of vivid imagery and metaphorical language that invites the listener to engage with the lyrics at a deeper level. The use of light and darkness, emptiness and fullness, and the contrast between nature and man-made structures, all contribute to creating a dreamlike atmosphere that hints at the possibility of a romance that defies logic and rationality. The idea of fate is central to the song, and it suggests that sometimes, things happen for a reason, even when we're not aware of it.

Overall, Alfa Mist's "Door" is a hauntingly beautiful love song that manages to capture the essence of longing, hope, and uncertainty that defines the human experience.

This is a masterpiece. I find my self revisiting this song time and time again. It encapsulates a sort of lethargic feeling of hope, hours of work and realization...i find this song during a time of heartbreak and uncertainty. I feel as though the dynamic contrast that builds throughout the piece does a fine job at bringing to light the reality of the situation. All building and making sense to finally ground it's self with the strings at the end; maintaining the motoric theme presented in the beginning, yet ending abruptly with the sense of unresolve...or maybe it is resolve.
