III
Algebra Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once upon a time
There was a damsel
Where deep in the hood
Stood a castle
And she often sat on the stoop
And watched the ghetto youth
Do the things they do
And oh
She dreamed of the day
Her knight would come through
With his shiny number...twenty two
To take her far away
From the heartache and pain
To a world she never knew

[Chorus:]
It's the same old story
Just another life time
Girl wants to be rescued
From all the hard times
You can be prince charming
I'll be Cinderella
Don't want a fairy tale
Just gimme happy after

For days on end
She tries to pretend
Like with her
There is nothing, nothing wrong
Although she tries
You can see the tracks from the tears that she cries
All night long
And she constantly weeps
For the house with the picket fence
And the big back yard
And she hopes one day
That a prince will take her away
To a life that ain't so hard

[Chorus:]

If I throw down my hair like Rapunzel
Would you come up and save me
If I'm in deep sleep like a beauty
Would you kiss me to wake me
And if my step mother won't let me out of the house
Would you rescue me
Would you rescue me

[Chorus: Repeat 2X]

Happily after give me after
Happily after give me after
Happily after give me after
Happily after give me after

Happy happy after
After happy after

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "III" by Algebra tell a story about a girl who dreams of escaping her troubled life and finding love with a prince who will rescue her. She lives in the hood and watches the youth engage in dubious activities from her stoop, while longing for a better life far away from the heartache and pain. The girl's dreams and desire for a better life are portrayed through the various fairy tales that she references; she imagines Rapunzel throwing down her hair, and herself as Sleeping Beauty, hoping for a prince to awaken her from the difficulties of her life. The chorus of the song emphasizes the girl's longing to be rescued from her hard times by a loving prince, but not just through a fairy tale, rather a fulfilled happy life after.

The story that Algebra presents through the lyrics rings with a very personal and relatable quality, highlighting the universal desire for love, rescue and a better life. The girl in the story is representative of anyone who has ever felt trapped by their circumstances and longed for a savior. While the fairy tale framework of the lyrics may seem fanciful, the sentiment is sincere and heartfelt. The chorus drives the overarching message of the song: “It’s the same old story, just another lifetime/Girl wants to be rescued from all the hard times/You can be prince charming, I’ll be Cinderella/Don’t want a fairy tale, just give me happy after.”

i think the better way is to move the x part aside and the number part like this
4x + 10 - 2x= 8
4x - 2x = - 8 - 10
2x = - 18
x = -18/2

@gandalfrj9364

I think you should make a video about how you make these videos. Most people don't realize how much work you have to put into making them.

@derekbanas

I'm definitely considering it since I started using a completely new setup just for these videos.

@arunavnanda7

@Derek Banas Yes man! or a day in your life!

@nxrada

Man, these are fucking EXCELLENT videos you're making. As a future engineering student whose high school math education did them a great disservice, these videos have been very helpful in preparing me for my precalc course in two weeks. Thank you, Mr. Banas!

@mr.fakeman4718

This is so calming that there are and will be this kind of videos.

@derekbanas

I'm very happy that you enjoy them :)

@rockoyhead

@Derek Banas Does using bots actually increase views?

@seshadhri2332

Excellent videos
Why can't we do like this...
1/5x = 6/7x
1/5*7/6 = x/x
7/30 = 1 (steps were correct)
I think there is some concern with the practice equations

@akshayanand6803
