Last Of My Kind
Alice in Chains Lyrics

So young, so braise and so unholy
I come to you in painted skies
You're broken, taint your ancient story
The living challenge you their lies

Trapped in the cold outside
There ain't no shelter
And they want to force my hand
Until I take what I wanted
And break all their lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing on the wall

Oh, from out upon the hillside
I am but what they've thrown away
I go to sleep behind the eight ball
I live to fight for one more day

I'm trapped in the cold outside
There ain't no shelter
And they want to force my hand
Until I take what I wanted
And break all their lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

Take what I wanted
And break all the lies
And defeat the fucking liars
Smash all the temples
And crawl through the rubble
And cry to the fallen

I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing on the wall

I'm the last of my kind still standing
I'm the last of my kind still standing on the wall

The last of my kind still standing
The last of my kind still standing

@SexedUpAtheist Coming from a "competent musician", I'm quite surprised to hear your response.

I shouldn't be surprised though.

In any event, it sure does mean something if Layne NEVER sang in the 5th octave in his professional career.

He used a setup incompatible with his AIC tone to hit those notes whereas Chris Cornell was hitting those notes AND Layne's notes with one vocal setup.

I wonder if Layne's youth had something to do with it, maybe his natural speaking voice was higher at the time.

And you obviously missed that I totally prefer Layne as a singer.

This song is heavy as hell. I know people hate the fact Layne is gone. I do too. This stuff is awesome though. So was the Layne stuff. I like it all

@Lucas Gianoli well they were always Doom metal. Even there early stuff was doomy it makes sense they would have gotten heavier as the genre has gotten heavier as a whole.

Mack Nason

Lucas Gianoli If you like AIC a little less heavy, I would check out songs like Fly, Maybe, and All I Am from Rainier Fog. All three are awesome, more melodic tunes

@Lucas Gianoli have you listened to the last 3 albums? I like the newer alice in chains music more than the older stuff. I do wish Staley was still around to progress with the band but Cantrell is what made Alice in chains. Staley was one of the greats but Cantrell is one of the living gods of music and weather it's the solo work, new or old alice in chains Cantrell is a musical genius. Thing about Cantrell is he may not be the best guitar player or singer or performer to ever come along but he did and still does make the best music ever!

Lucas Gianoli

What I hate about the newer alice in chains is actually that they got heavier. I liked the sound they had in the 90's That middle ground between all 3. Rock, Hard Rock and Metal. They were always going back and forth between the 3 styles and that was a thing that I loved about their sound.

Anomaly Filmworks

I think this stuff has a much better feel than the old AIC

Subeein Suresh

This is so metal. I don't understand why they're called grunge.

MSM and record labels.

Bob Schneider

@papa squat You're not wrong.

Bob Schneider

It's both.
