Calico
Alien_Ant_Farm Lyrics

So make it real
Just make it real

That's not a reason to fire me
That ain't no real reason
It's funny things cheapen when we disagree
If things got any worse then cheap would turn free
Calico cats and calico dreams
That ain't too real
Just make it real

Feel all the seasons flood through you and me
And see what trouble she's in
But that's not a reason to fire me
That ain't no real reason

Calico cats and calico dreams
That ain't too real
Just make it real
Collisions hurt and abrasions bleed
It's hard to deal when all you do is feel

Campfires swell into monstrous things
That summer heat that's winter deep

And all your wild winds
They couldn't stop me from flying

Calico cats and calico dreams
That ain't too real
Just make it real
Collisions hurt and abrasions bleed
It's hard to deal when all you do is feel

Just make it real

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Alien Ant Farm's song Calico delve into the idea of making things real and struggling to deal with emotions. The opening lines, "So make it real, just make it real," set the tone for the rest of the song - a plea for authenticity and honesty in relationships. The lines "It's funny things cheapen when we disagree / If things got any worse then cheap would turn free" highlight how disagreements and conflicts can erode trust and make us question the reality of what we have.

The chorus repeats the phrase "Calico cats and calico dreams / That ain't too real, just make it real" which seems to suggest that the things we envision and long for may not always be grounded in reality. The song also discusses the physical and emotional pain that comes with dealing with difficult situations - "Collisions hurt and abrasions bleed / It's hard to deal when all you do is feel." The lines "And all your wild winds / They couldn't stop me from flying" show the strength of the singer in the face of adversity, refusing to be held down by external factors.

Overall, Alien Ant Farm's Calico portrays a struggle for authenticity and emotional resilience in the midst of difficult circumstances.

I'm listening to the ANThology album on a weekly basis, and I bought it in 2001. Almost every song on the record is killer. Courage, Stranded, Wish, Calico and Flesh & Bone are my favorite tracks. Calico has some sick lyrics, too! Very imaginative.

20 years later and is still one of my go to albums.

i just saw these guys with about 29 other people in Sparks about an hour ago. the show was poorly promoted and nobody showed up. And they still rocked the house!! One of the best shows I've ever seen, hands down.

This, "Flesh and Bone", and "Attitude", all by AAF always give me chills by how amazing, deep, and impressive they are. My god...

Man, this is one of the few rock CDs I had back in middle school (I was really big on hip-hop, etc.) and once I listened through the whole album, I was absolutely hooked. Being picked up at the bus stop at 6 in the morning until going home at 2:30 in the afternoon, I listened to this song every chance I got. Middle school nostalgia for the fucking win.

This song became one of the songs I grew up to in high school. Still one of my favorite songs from them, right next to "These Days."

The first time I heard this song was 2007, I was homeless and had just moved in the day before with my ex-in laws. It was a terrible time in my life. I have since gotten a job, met a beautiful woman and have a house with her and our Daughters who are a Month apart. This song is a reminder of how low life can get...And i listen to it regularly because it reminds me of a place I never wanna go back to. (I had heard Smooth Criminal and Movies but I had never heard the album in full)

My all time favorite. this song told me to follow my dreams. 3 kids, 1 divorce, and 4 near death experiences later (yes 4... illness involved) I'm finally making my dreams come true 24 years after discovering AAF... "soooo! so make it real! just make it real!"
