In 1986, Hinds joined the soca band Square One. At first this band performed mostly in bars and clubs, but later they became a top Soca band, bringing soca to a new level. Alison produced her first hit in the year 1996, "Ragamuffin". That song made her win road march of that year for Kadooment (Barbados' Carnival). The following year she repeated road march and also won The Party Monarch with another hit "Twister". Alison was the first woman to ever win these titles in Barbados. This led to Hinds' role as the lead singer in the band. Next, Square One created an album called "Full Bloom". This album took over the Caribbean. It included the song "Faluma", which was the top song in the Caribbean for the period of 1999-2000. It toped the charts of Guatemala for 49 weeks. It was during this period that Hinds' popularity grew. Square One continued to produce hits until 2004 when it broke up - partly due to Hinds' departure.
Currently Alison Hinds lives with her family, husband Edward Walcott and daughter Saharan (born May 5th, 2004), on a horse farm in Barbados. She has her own band, "The Alison Hinds Show". This band was formed in 2005 when Hinds returned to the soca scene with the hit song "Roll It Gal" which is an anthem for young women and encourages them to have pride in themselves. In 2006 the song was still popular. Hinds is the main singer and most of the members of the band are young dancers and musicians. She also produced a song called "Love Affair". Since she returned to music she has recorded a collaboration with Machel Montano for the the remix of "Roll It Gal".

The lyrics to Alison Hinds’s song “West Indian” celebrate the vibrant and celebratory spirit of West Indian culture through the lens of Soca music, a popular genre in the Caribbean. The song is energized with repetitive phrases encouraging listeners to embrace their cultural identity, dance moves, and unapologetic joy. The lyrics praise the West Indian woman as one who embodies confidence, sensuality, and a strong connection to her culture. The rhythmic and upbeat tempo of the song implores listeners to move to the beat and dance freely, emphasizing the idea that Soca music and party culture are omnipresent in the Caribbean regardless of the time of day or location.

@@primitiveminds In my experience only members of the diaspora permit themselves to be referred to as a 'Caribbean.' Basic CSEC level History and Geography wipes that idea from most peoples minds.
It is grammatically and sociologically incorrect. The term West Indies is a political term and it directly relates to Caribbean countries that actually have close working relationships with each other ie ... CARICOM and the OECS. Aside from that CUBA is a our well known comrade.
People in the Americas and Europe are entirely ignorant to the fact that the Caribbean is not a monolithic place. People from the Cayman Islands, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and the US virgin Islands are all considered 'Caribbean.' They do not share the west Indian experience and that is the Caribbean the outsiders know most. The wider Caribbean Basin also includes Latin America in a geopolitical sense.
If you want to get lost in that bunch knowing full well outsiders don't even know the names of the countries in the English Speaking Caribbean, French Caribbean or in particular CARICOM or the OECS go ahead.
I am a WEST INDIAN that is my culture and it is NOT the same as 'Caribbean' culture by any means. West Indians are a historically, socially, politically and geopolitical identifiable group.
Refer to yourself what you will.

why do you say "west indian " why not caribbean? How can you be west indian when you are not indian?
@randomblasian5943
@@dharas4114the caribbean when first discovered was thought to be India by Christopher Columbus so he called the region “the indies”. Everyone later found out we in fact were not India and were a completely new part of the world and instead of changing the name they just called us the West Indies. It’s the same reason native Americans are called Indians sometimes. As for the Indian point many caribbean people ARE Indian due to the British indentureship program that brought thousands of Indians to the Caribbean. Many caribbean countries as a result have a large Indian population with namely Trinidad, Guyana, and Suriname having the largest percentages of Indians.
