Crazy As Me
Alison Krauss Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm used to being alone.
Except for six month playings without rings and phone bills that I've waited for.
This is the life that I choose.
I got no complaints if he is;
If he ain't, I guess he'll send me a rose.

Just don't ask me for the truth if you choose to lie honey.
And don't try to open my door with your skeleton key.
Some folks seem to think I only got one problem.
I can't find nobody as crazy as me.

I still love what I know.
I love to ride alone and sing a song and listen to the radio.
You can ride alone and if you change your mind, well, that's just fine,
But there is somethin' that you got to know.

Just don't ask me for the for the truth if you choose to lie honey.
And don't try to open my door with your skeleton key.
Some folks seem to think I only got one problem.
I can't find nobody as crazy as me.

Just don't ask me for the for the truth if you choose to lie honey.
And don't try to open my door with your skeleton key.

Some folks seem to think I only got one problem.
I can't find nobody as crazy as me.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Alison Krauss's song Crazy As Me convey a sense of self-assuredness and independence in the singer's personality. The opening lines of the song, "I'm used to being alone / Except for six month playings without rings and phone bills that I've waited for," suggest that the singer is content with being solitary, but also acknowledges that she is not entirely averse to the idea of a romantic partner, as long as they fit her particular lifestyle.

Throughout the song, the singer emphasizes that she doesn't need anyone else's approval, and won't compromise her own principles to please anyone else. She warns against those who would try to manipulate her or force their way into her life by saying "Just don't ask me for the truth if you choose to lie honey / And don't try to open my door with your skeleton key," indicating that she will not tolerate any kind of falsehood or insincerity. The repeated line "Some folks seem to think I only got one problem / I can't find nobody as crazy as me" suggests that the singer places a high value on her own individuality and has yet to find someone who can understand or match her eccentricities.

Overall, the song Crazy As Me appears to celebrate the idea of being comfortable in one's own skin and not allowing anyone else's opinions or expectations to dictate one's life choices. The lyrics provide a reassuring message to anyone who may be struggling to find their place in the world, urging them to stay true to themselves and not to worry about fitting in with the crowd.

I just listened to this for the first time Pumpkin Patch and I love it and I must tell you that I got myself an all expense paid two week vacation in the SD state hospital where they wanted to know if I was a danger to myself or others, my doctor quickly established that I was not but to thoroughly do their job and earn their keep they had to keep and observe me for a couple of weeks to satisfy the courts who had given the doctor the power to release me. So in two weeks sober and taking a gallon of Depakote every day nearly here's what I accomplished; I taught a girl how to play guitar, invented a new dance called "The Human", wrote a short story about what DJT would do if he won the white house again ( this was before he had won). And I started a children's book about a Tonka Truck named Flatire, it's French.
