Alkaline is an artist with high influence among the youth in the Dancehall realm.
He is known for his elusive character and aggressive hip-hop influenced style in his music which artistically captures the core of the genres past whilst embodying the diversity of Modern Dancehall.
Bartley began recording at the age of 16, and using the stage name Alkaline. He became popular in Jamaica in 2013 with a series of singles like "123", "High Suh", "Bruk Out", "Things Mi Love" and "Live Life". His live shows have sometimes been controversial, in February 2016 an object was thrown at him with a bottle while on stage in St. Lucia, responding by throwing the bottle back at the offender.

We turned out this way
It's in our eyes
Like shallow graves
But we are one with the lover and grace
We don't discriminate at all
For what it's worth
So live young, die fast
No one will last
So sit back and relax
Enjoy the crash
You're fading to black and you're gone
Live young, die fast
Die fast
Young easy life
And untimely death
This doesn't work at all for me
So save your breath
You took your time
And stashed it away
Deep down inside of a cardboard box
Marked "rainy day"
[Chorus: ]
And I feel a miracle
In every breath that I breathe
Won't let this miracle
End in tragedy
I sense a miracle
In all that I see
Won't let this miracle
Slip away from me
Live young, die fast
No one will last
So sit back and relax
Enjoy the crash
You're fading to black and it's gone
Live young, die fast
Live young, die fast
Die fast
Live young, die fast
No one will last
So sit back and relax
Enjoy the crash
You're fading to black and it's gone
Live young, die fast
Die fast
The lyrics of Alkaline Trio's song "Live Young Die Fast" seem to suggest a nihilistic outlook on life, one that sees death as inevitable and thus encourages living life to the fullest in the meantime. The first verse suggests an acceptance of one's own mortality and a sense of connection with others who feel the same way. The line "we don't discriminate at all" suggests an egalitarian approach to death, where no one is exempt from its grasp regardless of their age, status, or accomplishments. The chorus drives the message home with a blunt reminder that life is short and fragile, and that we should embrace it while we can. The line "enjoy the crash" suggests that even death can be seen as a thrilling, albeit tragic, event that is inevitable and thus should be experienced fully.
The second verse seems to introduce a bit of skepticism in this worldview, as the singer expresses their discomfort with the idea of an untimely death. The line "this doesn't work at all for me" suggests a sense of unease with the notion that one cannot control their own fate. The line "you took your time and stashed it away" suggests a sense of regret or missed opportunities that are now "boxed" away, waiting for a rainy day that may never come. The final verse suggests a bit of hope and a call to action, as the singer experiences a sense of wonder and gratitude for every breath they take. The lines "won't let this miracle end in tragedy" and "won't let this miracle slip away from me" suggest a desire to make the most of life and appreciate every moment, even in the face of death.
