2014 Focus ST owner here. Just wanted to mention a few things if you're considering buying one (I would, they're starting to get hard to find.)

HP 252 TQ 270 are the correct numbers.

The car has brake vectoring which utilizes individual braking per wheel to make corners faster, making it a really fun to drive car around corners.

There are three trims to the ST; ST1, ST2, ST3. All provide the same performance but the interior and some exterior components are different, like the HID headlights in the ST2 and 3.

These cars are surprisingly reliable, multiple ST owners are already in the hundred thousands on stock motors. How you drive will also determine how long your engine lasts.

Honestly don't be discouraged by the 100 less HP vs the RS. These cars can easily be tuned to 300+ if you want. The ST is very affordable for what you get. The RS would've been my choice too if I could afford it.

Gotta say the "fracus" as i call them are good boxes
but here in the uk people kept buying the mk2 with a 1.6tdci psa engine,
Problem with these was the dpf system, you had to add additive which was not easy like puttin diesel in as its a hidden tank under the rear of the car,
but the dpf's always clog up and caused serious engine damage,
Soot builds up and ends up blowing out the turbo actuator arm
then if not seen to continues past the turbo and blowing the oil seals out of the injectors,
New injecror seals,
new turbo,
new dpf,
Laptop work,
New mortgage on your house for the labour,
I have lost count of how many of these i've seen and i outright refuse to fix them as its not worth it,
I have said before dpf's are a brilliant concept
however if not designed well
It causes more pollution from manufacturing new parts and transporting them,
storing them in dry warm place,
Plus all the other things you dont consider,
Then end up scraping them,
Cutting down pollution is key however with ill designed devices such as this dpf it just creates pollution elsewhere that gets accounted for on a different chart

I have a buddy that bought one of the SVTs in like 2014. I flew out to visit and he let me drive it as a loaner. That was the day I realized how awesome hatchbacks were. The 6 speed manual was absolutely incredible

@Garrett Boland I just hit 62k miles and it’s been a great daily driver so far. My ST is completely stock, about the only modifications I’ve done is aftermarket radio, speakers and subs.

If you’re in the market for an ST, One thing I would recommend is getting an extended warranty that covers the car til 100k miles. It’s came in handy for me, as I had 2 sensors failed on me and costed $800 in total. However, the extended warranty has helped me with all that and more.

Overall, I enjoy my ST and have no regrets. It’s not the fastest thing in the world, but it still brings me smiles all these years of ownership. Hope this help😂🙏

My second favorite car I have ever owned was my 2004 Focus. It had the 2.3l Duratec I4. I put a stage 1 Cosworth performance package on it which include a CAI, throttle body, and intake manifold. With few extra bolt-ons, it was a pretty great sleeper.

My favorite is my old 5 speed escape made in 06. Mine had the same 2.3l inline 4 as the Mazda speed3 (my current car) because the first gen escape was an SUV made in collaboration with Mazda, after Ford acquired majority stake. Its 0-60 was 6 seconds bone stock, it was built upon the ford focus platform so it handled like a race car, came stock with bucket seats, short throw shifter. My dad is such a psychopath , he drained my oil out and intentionally blew up my car because hes jealous of me... but if i ever find another in the future, its staying mint forever. The focus platform has so many good vehicles that werent ever brought to the US also.

Still have my 07 ZX3 hatchback as a daily driver/winter beater, probably one of the most reliable cars I've owned. Fun fact, the SVT rear disc brake kit that used to be available as a separate purchase from Ford Performance was a direct swap if you wanted to upgrade the factory drums. Still wish Ford did a SVT version for the 07 model year utilizing the 2.3L engine that you could get in the sedan, would've been a fun little car to compete with the GTI at the time.

My buddy had an SVT focus and it was a blast to ride in. Didn’t take much for it to hit 140, the only reason I know that is we chased down a Ford GT on the interstate after a car show. It was super grippy and the 6-speed felt really responsive. I had a hard time keeping up with his Focus in my Neon... those were the days. Sadly, he totaled it not long ago but the motor and trans might still be good although the insurance company bought it and more than likely has had it shipped off to be recycled.

I got an ‘05 focus zxw (the wagon sub model) for my first car and I absolutely love it, it’s easy on gas, quick and it handles really well. In my opinion it’s a good looking little wagon and it’s my favorite thing ever

My aunt has a Mk1 RS, I drove it once and it is so impressive. The turbo lag is insane and you have all the power delivered at 4'000rpm (yes that's high). But it was so fun to drive, and it stick to the road insanly well for a fwd.
Apprently there are only ~500 lefts alive in UE, that's what she told me but I hope she's wrong😅

The UK got a mk1 ST focus. It was called an ST170 (same engine as the US got in the SVT) but it didn't have much difference in appearance from the non ST's except a couple slightly sportier looking bits and a couple special colours

I learnt to drive in a 2001 2.0 manual focus and I still love that car, the airflow sensor keeps failing and the a/c fan motors keep burning out but 19 years on and it's still a riot to drive

I had a 2003 SVT with the "European Appearance Package" (heated leather recaros, multispoke wheels, and some other goodies) it was fun to drive, it was one of the few FWD cars that would oversteer from the factory. motor loved to rev, chassis was tight. Last FWD car I've owned, and likely the last one i will own.
The reason we didn't get many of the cool models is because Murica' loves V8s; I do too, but the Focus RS we got recently was awesome.

During 05-07 we did have an ST model sedan though. Had a duratec 2.3L and in 06-07 had a Street Appearance Package, different bumpers and an added spoiler but yes Europe definitely got the good stuff.

Oh yes... I remember my 2000 Ford Focus getting recalls in the mail on an unnervingly routine basis. Even the brake rotors started to warp with less than 9,000 miles on it. The car lasted about 9 years until the engine quit.

My 2005 ST is the single most fun to drive fwd car I've ever driven. Yeah, it's more fun than a GTI or an SI, I don't care whether it's as fast. In another 50,000 miles, I have every intention of replacing it with the new ST, which is equally fun and genuinely fast (though no quicker to 60, I assume due to an extra gear change). I'm a lifelong GM guy, and stumbled upon my car looking for a Cobalt/Cruze for a work car. It's twice the car of those two, and I'm damn glad I accidentally found it. It's a damn shame we quit making it.

We don't have it in the US thanks to the damn Chicken Tax. What I'd really like to see would be a Wheelhouse episode on the chicken tax, how it came to be and what effects it has on the US auto market, in particular what vehicles we don't see here because of it. Prior to traveling abroad I'd thought that maybe pickup trucks were the one thing American automakers were good at, but then I went to Guatemala and almost never saw any Ford/Dodge/GM, but tons of non-US pickup models we don't see here, which implies that the only reason the Big Three are even surviving might be the Chicken Tax keeping foreign competition out of that market for the most part.

I feel like clapped out would indicate it's showing signs of slowing down lol. That said I recently got a 2012 5 speed Focus SE and I do love the MPG it's getting but do kinda wish it had more than 160HSPRS however being as light as it is, it's not too bad I suppose. Kinda miss what my Impala could do considering it's weight / size but the reason I even got this Focus is due to the transmission starting to fail and needing to replace gaskets n such and for just a lil more to fix that I got this lil dood. Has 148k on it already and I'm hoping with what I've heard others say, they seem to last well beyond and with it being manual, no dreaded auto trans issues.

My mom's 2005 zx4, 2012 hatchback, 2018 ST, my brother's 2003 SVT, my 2002 zx3 and my 2005 wagon. These cars run and run forever. yes the svt/st170 was a fun car to drive had one for a few years. teh engine was good like a bog standard focus if you kept the revs down but like a different car when you booted it. the 6 speed gearbox and its slightly odd ratios help so getting up to 70 on a motorway was 1-2-6 (just make sure you got 6 before 70 as if you hit the limiter boy did you feel it lol)

You forgot to mention the Ford Focus ST’s over in Australia, called the ‘XR5 turbo’ between 06-07 we got the mark 2 ST and then in 08 it got facelifted, still using the same 5pot and everything,
We only got the 5 door hatchback variant and I believe they were slightly modified from the UK variants to suit the Australian road conditions

Hey, so I worked at Ford for the summer as an intern. I know nobody will probably believe me because this is a YouTube comment, but they actually sold really well. The problem is that the Focus, Fusion, and Fiesta all had negative margins -- not super negative, we're talking like -2% to -5%. Cutting them does make more money for the company even if they don't replace the models. They still want to have some cheap models, but probably not less than 18k anymore.

Others have mentioned, but North America actually DID get a focus ST for the MK1 generation. From 05-07, which was introduced along with slight changes to the styling of all American Focuses (Foci?). The MK1 ST had a 2.3L Duratec (151hp) as opposed to the 2.0L in all other trim levels, a performance tuned exhaust, unique wheels, disc brakes all around, and you could also get them with a pretty sweet Body kit and wing. The interior got some upgrades too, mostly just nicer upholstery and a different look for the instrument cluster. I'm currently driving and 05 ST myself and I've enjoyed it quite a lot the last couple years!

Oh yeah, the fuel injected 302 V8 in the Stang that I purchased brand new in 1986 has never so much as even backfired after 200K miles of me redlining the Hell out of it all day, every day back in the day. Damn that 5.0 is a sturdy beast. I need to rebuild the motor just to keep up with today’s HP #’s! . Anyway, the ST is already missed in America and IMO a seriously underrated car. Damn is that thing fun to rip on. 🥳

Mr Gacha_Wolfie he’s just replying dude, I have a 2004 Ford Focus RS with a 48 mm turbo pushing 8 lbs on low boost and 16 lbs on high boost, I don’t like going to high boost at all but sometimes you gotta have fun, still in stock internals and injectors and damn does it shred tires, never once has it left me stranded either, eBay turbo kit with professional tig welder never failed me.

I have owned 2 Foci. I had a 2004 ZX3 Premium that I was going to do a 4.6L engine swap in… then Ford brought the RS to the states. I had to get one, and in 2017, I did. I don’t regret it, and still have fun daily driving it.

So today I was going to replace the air filter on my 05 zx4 ses and I basically had to remove the wheel and front bumper to remove half the intake system just to replace the filter soo how hard was it to do the timing belt on the svt

Life isn't completely over for the Focus in the US. Ford is developing a unibody compact pickup truck based on the Ford Focus currently slated for the 2021 model year. Rumor has it Ford is going to call it either the Courier or Ranchero, both of which were sedan-based Ford pickups of yesteryear. Personally, I hope Ford makes an RS version. That would certainly help bolster sales among the young buyers Ford is targetting with this new truck.

2015+ ST got a twin scroll turbo in the U.S. also makes 252hp and 270 lb/ft tq on 91 Oct. Of course these numbers are always at the crank for America. I have had a 2015 in performance blue and now 2018 Hot pepper red.

I think you missed out on the 2017-2019 Focus RS which had 300HP stock, and some modded (pimped up) versions reaching as high as 400HP.
It was built until 2019.
That car had so many issues, the engine would constantly blow seals, within 30k miles.
We have a few of them here on the property. Gas mileage was crap though (20/25MPG), due to the insane short gearing.
Same for the Fiesta ST.
The Fiesta ST could get 40MPG on the highway, if it only had a 20% taller final gear, which was perfectly doable with the power it made.
But instead, Fiesta and Focus were dumped by many, because of it's poor gas mileage compared to what the car was able to do, with a proper transmission gearing.

You guys totally forgot to mention the 1st gen focus with the 2.3 duratec. It was a zx3 with an upgraded MP3 player head unit. It looked exactly like every other zetec powered one, but when you popped the hood, it had the 2.3 duratec from the Mazda 3. I totally had one. They were fast. My car repeatedly spanked my buddy's SVT, except on the highway. I had a speed limit of 105 or something like that, and his would do about 140... don't ask me how I know. Lol. But yeah. It was a SUPER sleeper. You would have never guessed it was that quick. To have a 2.3 in that car was incredibly fun. I hope you get to drive one. With just a few mods (balance shaft delete, intake, catback, and this strange bottom end tuning kit that is hard to explain), I picked up another 20 hp without a tune. Another friend picked up a bone stock one and we put on a lightened 9.5lb flywheel and act clutch...... ffffffffffffffuuuuuuuu.... that thing was fast. He went to the track and broke into the 14s (like, 14.8) with just an intake, balance shaft delete, the bottom end tuner thingy, and the flywheel/clutch.... That is insane. early 90s corvettes bone stock ran in the low 14s, so for this little 4 cylinder to get within a second of the 90 corvette.... that is dope. I miss that car so much.

You should make a video on the v6 rav4. The rav4 itself is dope but the v6 is the best sleeper around imo. Also pretty sure it was only sold in the US so hey it's unique. Think I read somewhere that Toyota engineers just made it because they wanted it and then it was cancelled because it wasn't ever planned for any markets and would cut into lexus sales. Don't quote me on that though.

Hey James, you forgot to mentions the Focus Mk2 RS500 also came with a special front suspension design called the Revoknuckle. The same technology used in the 2017 Honda Civic Type R. Look into it

I prefer the focus xr5 which is only sold in Australia it’s pretty much a 2008 model Focus RS but with a bit less horsepower and half the price. I like it cos in Victoria there are laws about cars being to powerful for first car like 130kw (174 hp) per tonne (2204 pounds) is the limit for p plates cars
