The band released their self-titled debut in 1995 to much critical acclaim and media attention. New Jersey's Gern Blandsten Records stepped in and issued the band's 1998 follow-up, Turning Into Small. 2000 yielded a third ANL&LF full-length, 'Straight Blue Line', a collection of 7" singles, b-sides and unreleased tracks recorded from 1995 to 1997. In 2001, a souped-up reissue of their debut with four additional unreleased tracks was released.
Often referred to by fans as simply 'L&L', the band was active for 6 years from 1993 until 1999. From 1986 until 1993, most of the same lineup performed under the moniker 'Senepede', but weren't a dreampop/shoegaze outfit until 1991.
You can now find them now in solo projects- Jett Brando, w/Jeremy Winter | Ifwhen, w/Merc | Dalek w/Joshua Booth | Stiv 1 w/Stephen Doherty. Sadly we may never see them perform together again.
In Between and After
All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hit (hit), so fine
Somewhere to tumble
Hit (hit) your mind
If (hey) the sun low
They do with you
If (hey) no sun low
I′m not explaining
Which way where you knew
How it kiss not all
How inside knots it would break after all
Let me go down
It's not like all the others at all
I′m not explaining
The lyrics in All Natural Lemon & Lime Flavors's song In Between and After are quite abstract and open to interpretation. At its core, the song seems to be about a relationship that is falling apart. The opening line, "She let it tumble," could be referring to the way that the relationship has lost its balance and is now tumbling towards an end. The second line, "Hit (hit), so fine," suggests that there is a beauty in the way that things are falling apart, even if it is painful.
The next few lines are more difficult to decipher. "Somewhere to tumble / Hit (hit) your mind" could be interpreted in a few different ways. It could be suggesting that the chaos of the relationship is affecting the mind of one of the partners, or it could be referring to some sort of mental or emotional breakdown that is happening as a result of the relationship falling apart.
The rest of the lyrics continue in this abstract and enigmatic way. The chorus, which repeats the line "I'm not explaining," seems to suggest a resignation or acceptance of the fact that the relationship is coming apart and there is nothing that can be done about it. The final lines, "Let me go down / It's not like all the others at all," could be interpreted as a plea for the relationship to end in a kind and peaceful way, without the usual drama and pain that often accompanies a breakup.
