Meguru Kisetsu
All That Jazz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Meguru Kisetsu by All That Jazz are about the fleeting nature of time and the importance of cherishing the memories and experiences that come with each passing season. The song begins describing the beauty and sadness of spring in the light pink scenery of blooming flowers. The wind blows and the flowers fall, portraying the ephemeral nature of life. The lyrics then move on to summer, where the waves of the ocean seem calm and serene but are actually breaking and shattering inside the singer's heart. The image here is of the heart as a shoreline, where each wave is a memory that breaks into white foam on the shore.

The next verse asks who is standing at the end of the passing seasons, gazing upon the changes. The singer is alone, holding their own feelings close to themself, trying to embrace the future. They are determined to find shapeless dreams from the window ledge tomorrow, and move forward. The verse about autumn describes a feeling of loneliness and the desire to meet someone in the fading light of the evening. The last verse is about winter, where the singer feels as cold as the snow and their tears melting on their hand. The snow resembles the tears, but the warmth of meeting someone special in winter makes everything bearable. The lyrics conclude with the realization that the happiest people are those who seek happiness, and memories of each season are cherished while walking towards the dream that is almost in sight.

When I was a student, I interned at a Japanese company and the office played Ghibli soundtrack every day from 9 am to 6 pm. The playlist didn’t change at all and we had to listen to it every day. Can you imagine what it feels like? My seniors were used to it because they worked there for years.

I feel like that would ruin the music, no matter how good it is.

kook kook kook kook

thats the same for me but a different playlist, it felt like torture after a while

Too bad, that would have kinda made it boring over time. Hope that didn't completely ruin Ghibli music for you. It's a real pleasure to listen to Joe Hisaishi's music, especially when reproduced in Jazz.
