Running from Lions
All Time Low Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Get me out of this place, before I cause more damage,
A small price to pay for building houses out of matchsticks;
And when things get too hot, you've got me to blame for,
Every fire that breaks out in every lover's name, so

Don't forget, we've got unfinished business,
Stories yet to unfold,
Tales that must be retold,
And I regret not knowing when to put an end to all this madness,
Keeps me wanting,
Keeps me wanting more

Sell me out I'm yesterday's old news,
Phrases left on paper,
Black ink bleeding through
The pages where we made our history.
Call me foolish,
I feel hopeless

Like a dear caught in the headlights
I won't know what hit me
Running from lions,
Never felt like such a mistake

Don't forget, we've got unfinished business,
Stories yet to unfold,
Tales that must be retold,
And I regret not knowing when to put an end to all this madness,

Keeps me wanting,
Keeps me wanting more

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Running from Lions" by All Time Low are about the consequences of not being able to let go of past relationships or situations that have caused pain in the past. The singer acknowledges that they have caused damage and started fires in past relationships, but they still feel trapped and unable to move on. They feel foolish and hopeless, struggling to break free and move forward. The image of running from lions represents the fear and danger they feel as they try to escape the past, even though staying in that situation would ultimately be a mistake. The singer is aware that they have unfinished business and stories yet to be told, but they are unsure of how or when to put an end to the madness that keeps them wanting more.

The song is a commentary on the cycle of pain and regret that can come with failing to let go of the past, and the difficulties of breaking free from unhealthy patterns of behavior. It also addresses the tension between the desire for closure and the fear of finally letting go. The lyrics suggest that the singer is aware of their own role in causing pain, but they are still struggling to move on and find closure.

Ill always like ATL but mannn do I miss when this E.P came out. Raw sounding, really clever playing and the lyrics and song meanings were fantastic. Shame they felt the need to become more pop orientated like others in the genre. Should have gone the way NFG did and do more "modern" pop punk stuff. Still a great band though.

@Faith Hunter wrong

+hesto forced? Idk about that, they always seemed pretty straight up that there goal was radio play-meaning poppier was the only way to go. Their switch to a major label made that even more clear. At least their back on Hopeless, and even though I'm a huge Put Up or Shut Up and SWIR fan I thought their two newest albums were honestly pretty good. Don't Panic was a great return to form. Future Hearts really blurred the edges between pop and pop/punk but for them, it seems like the absolute right move.

@l e x Well thats whats wrong with rock and roll today then.

Faith Hunter

they were literally forced to change by hopeless records so um don't criticise them just because they were forced to change. they wouldn't of changed if they had the choice.

Ray-Рэй M

@daggers9123 Could of been a legendary band and changed music. Oh well.
