Satellites
All Time Low Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wishing on a star that's just a satellite
Driving in a car with broken tail-lights
Growing up with eyes glued shut

Wishing on a star that's just a satellite
Driving in a car with broken tail-lights

Na-na na na-na na
Na-na na na-na

Strip club in a strip mall
Million ways to die
All the things we lost in
The backseat of the sky

Growing up with eyes glued shut

Wishing on a star that's just a satellite
Driving in a car with broken tail-lights

Na-na na na-na na
Na-na na na-na

We were just kids, we were just kids singing
We were just kids, we were just kids

We were just kids, we were just kids singing
We were just kids, we were just kids

We were just kids, we were just kids singing
We were just kids, we were just kids

We were just kids, we were just kids singing
We were just kids, we were just kids

Overall Meaning

In All Time Low's song Satellite, the lyrics describe a feeling of being lost and disconnected from reality. The first two lines refer to the act of wishing upon a star, which is often seen as a symbol of hope and positivity. However, the star in the song is merely a satellite, emphasizing the idea that something once seen as special and unique is now mundane and uninspiring. The line "Driving in a car with broken tail-lights" adds to this sense of disconnection, as the car is not functioning properly, and therefore not providing a clear view of the world.

The middle of the song deals with darker themes, such as death and loss. The lyrics "Strip club in a strip mall, million ways to die" suggest a feeling of hopelessness and despair. The line "All the things we lost in the backseat of the sky" is a metaphor for the things that have been left behind or forgotten, and highlights the song's theme of feeling disconnected and lost.

The song ends with the repetition of the phrase "We were just kids, we were just kids singing", which emphasizes the idea that the singer of the song is looking back on their past and feeling nostalgic for a time when things were simpler and less complicated.

I remember two years ago going to their concert, waiting for them to come on stage and as soon as those chords began my friend next to me started to scream with excitement. Last night I went to their concert again with the same friend, and I'm so thankful to all time low for bringing us closer together
