More Than a Friend
All Too Much Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Monday morning I call you up
How was your weekend?
I just can't stop
It's Tuesday and you're stressed again
I'll rub your back I'm such a good friend

Wednesday and I'm feeling fine
Another guy moved you down his line
Thursday we'd go rent a flick
Watch it close together we still don't click

There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend
There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend

Friday and the weekend's here
I didn't make plans
In case you're clear
I'll be round at half past nine
You said you're going out
I said 'Have a nice time

Saturday we've got a date
It's a daytime thing
You've gotta be somewhere late
Anyway I'm next to you
There's nothing more I'd rather do

There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend
There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend

I can't stop now I can't stop now
Can't turn back now
Wouldn't want to anyhow

Sunday is a day of rest
But I've gotta get something off my chest
I wanted to tell you on the phone
But I'm coming over
You're alone

Things are cool
Don't get me wrong
But I want more
Check out this song
Together we can make it work
I hope you don't think that I'm a jerk

There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend
There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend
There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend
There I've said it again
I think of you as more than a friend

There I've said it again
There I've said it again
There I've said it again
There I've said it again

And again and again
And again and again

Overall Meaning

The song "More Than a Friend" by All Too Much tells a story of unrequited love from the perspective of someone who is hopelessly in love with their friend. The singer starts by innocently checking in on their friend's weekend, but as the week goes by, they increasingly try to be there for their friend through their stress and disappointments. The singer's feelings for their friend become clear when they say "There I've said it again / I think of you as more than a friend." The lyrics continue to describe the singer's desire to be with their friend romantically, but they fear that the feeling is not mutual or that they may ruin their friendship. Eventually, the singer decides to confess their feelings to their friend in person, hoping that they can make it work.

The lyrics of "More Than a Friend" capture the emotional turmoil of having feelings for a friend that goes beyond friendship. It highlights the possibility of losing a valuable companion if the confession goes wrong. The song's melody and the vocalist's voice enhance the melancholic tone. The catchy chorus adds to the relatable quality of the song, making it an excellent example of an acoustic pop ballad.

As far as I can find All Too Much is the alias for film soundtrack composer Ralph Sall. Named after a Beatles song, he made a series of songs under the name for a few films. All the songs seem to have a Beatles and Stone Roses vibe to them. And that's all lol
