Treat what you say TO and ABOUT yourself as if it's to or about a friend - you would not call your friend a sorry person or any of the harmful things you might say to yourself! Thank you for this video! I've acquired a large amount of social anxiety and sesitivity and am constantly apologizing due to bullying and loneliness in school settings. I always am afraid that I'm doing something wrong, and I overanalyze every word and facial expression people give me. I'm attempting to gain back my confidence after finally getting over my fear of medication.

Wow very interesting perspective on why people apologize too much. Thanks for pointing that out as well as your input on ways to change the habit of doing so. I definitely fall in this category, it started as a child, it just seemed to be the polite thing to do. But I can see how this can backfire with the negative words being spoken against oneself.

This is something for me to remember — thank you for reminding me - I like this outlook. It gives the sayer and receiver an uplifting feeling when you say thank you for reminding me - versus I’m sorry . There’s still situations where I’m sorry apples but I get your point of what you are saying

I am drained from hearing my friend say “I’m sorry” all the time and I am drained from constantly reassuring this person that they are enough. Is there a compassionate way to be honest and tell this person to not say I’m sorry for everything? I am open to suggestions.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this. I have some personal insight into just how draining it can be. In answer to your question, it's not your place to "heal" them. You've been there and reassured them over time and that speaks volumes about the kind of person you are. It's clear a person who needs this kind of reassurance needs to do some personal development. If they are open to it, suggest they hire a life coach. They DO need someone to help them but it shouldn't be you. It would be too much of a strain on your relationship. A book or one conversation won't be enough to help them. This behavior is likely a habit but more than that, they get a "pay back". When they say sorry, what do they get? Compassion and love. That's what this person needs the most. You can do that. All humans need this but some people because of their past, may need it more. My heart goes out to you both. I hope this helps.

this video was amazing. Me and my boyfriend are currently in different rooms of the house. Because I am just agitated and he doesn't understand because he keeps constantly apologizing and I have a lot of my own insecurities because of my past and I had a sit-down with my cell phone how we can stop going through this. So I let him know with a lot of thought that him always apologizing makes me very angry instead of figuring out what the issue is and solving it. Cutting me off when you're saying I'm sorry doesn't just end the conversation so this really just helps me understand how I can work with him which I'm always compassionate towards him I let him know that he does not have to apologize. But he just wants the situation to me over so I'm hoping that this video that I sent home can help us both out this is going to be the second one but honestly I feel like you just hit the nail on the head. May have saved our relationship but reality is I probably would have left him anyway LOL thank you so much

Heads up people, especially women!. This trait of always saying also sends pedophiles, rapists and other bad people a clear sign: i'm insecure and u can take advantage of me.
This is extremely dangerous because these people specifically look for this kind of stuff when they pick their victims! Be careful, do not show your shyness or your insecurity to anyone you don't know well.

You're welcome and also understand that sometimes we say it in a normal conversation. Here's an example. Someone says something to you but you didn't quite get everything the said. What so many of us do is say, "sorry?" with a question mark meant to get them to say it again. This sort of response is just a habit and there are better ways of asking someone to repeat themselves. More than anything this video was meant to draw attention to apologizing too much and to lift ourselves up instead.

i just found out that i say sorry too much because i'm putting myself in their position and think "ah, if i was her i'd like an apology". I just realised that if i was wronged, i would want the person to say sorry until they're annoyed at themselves. I'm scared of myself now

You're not wrong to want to apologize, you have a big heart. There's a better way of apologizing that is more meaningful than saying those two words "I'm sorry". You could say, "oh wow, I was wrong and I promise to never do anything like that again." That phrase is far more meaningful than "I'm sorry". When you're in the wrong, it's more important to make a comment that tells the other person you recognize what you did and that you won't do it again.

It is not true that everyone is looking for approval. I think you may be projecting because that is how you have experienced life. But for me personally there are only a few times in my life where I needed approval. People who have low self esteem and confidence issues often seek approval from others. People should focus on treating others with kindness and having personal boundaries.

A person who has difficulty with not accepting "Thank You" or a compliment is a whole other sort of self esteem issue. It relates to not feeling "worthy". We have all sorts of interactions with people who are angry and sarcastic too. They would not accept your thank you but that's on them. I have videos on toxic people, gaining confidence and feeling worthy.

How it works for me is it helps shift my focus from getting down on myself, to focusing more on the solution. When i say ''Thank you for pointing that out, i will work on that''' instead of ''I'm sorry'' it helps me not be so focused on the problem itself and shift to actually finding the solution and makes me more effective, therefore increasing my confidence. I think it also helps the other person know that I know they are just trying to help me and not getting down on me for no reason and help them understand I know where they're coming from.Just started doing this recently and have already seen a big improvement in my confidence and overall happiness! I think this video really nailed it!

I recognize my twin's little brother also really do over–apologizing & saying thank you too much like too too much even if he mistakenly or mistyped only one word also he’ll say sorry many times than just one word he mistyped. Yes, I too do say sorry & thank you a lot than the average person would say ig but not as much as my little brother. So I was concerned and search for answers like…Why? How? What happens or what’s the problem of him over-apologizing we were never been bullied either and also not only “sorry” that he says a lot, “thank you” also he always says a lot when someone do even just a little little favor or give something & saying nice to/for him. So obviously as a big caring sister, I search for answers… is that natural or healthy, or does my little brother was hurt inside before that makes him like this. How to stop this?

Have you and he talked about it? Bringing this to his attention would be the first step. Helping him to understand that how it can impact him. I am not a person that says sorry tons, but I have a lot of friends who do. So as a person hearing sorry a lot from others, I feel like I have to step on eggshells a lot and often be worried that I might hurt them. Hearing sorry sounds like I probably say something that made the other person feel bad enough to become apologetic, so great now I'm the bad guy again in the group and I have to fix it.

It's not my place to judge your sister without knowing her. From what you're saying, she feels deep pain for something in her mind and is taking it out on you and her boyfriend. I would refrain from saying you're sorry and instead, see that she just wants love. Try just hugging her without saying anything.

Yes, we SHOULD make an acknowledgement statement telling that person we realize what we did and won't do it again. Watch the video again. I actually discuss this in detail with example. It's the two words, "I'm sorry" which are the problem. They're meaningless because we hear them all of the time. There are much better ways to apologize that are deeper and more heartfelt.

When we're always thinking about losing something or someone, we're almost manifesting it to happen. Instead, focus your mind on the fact that you have her. Go deeper... focus your feelings like a a meditation on all the wonderful memories until you're vibrating with love and joy. You can anchor these feelings and thoughts with an item like a bracelet. You've likely seen those plastic, jelly-like bracelets that have a saying on them. It could be something as simple as a new watch or a rubber band. Every time you look at your anchor, you'll be "triggered" to remember the love, joy and gratitude. Always focus your mind on gratitude for what you have (her). Every time you start thinking of losing her, tell your brain to look at what you have. Stay there in love and gratitude.

"sorry" for being so annoying, but people with this problem say they are sorry all the time, not just when they hear possible criticism. So, I'm not sure you do understand this on a very deep level. All I hear is that you find this problem very annoying. I have never apologized with the hope that someone will "give" me self esteem rewards. Plus, I apologize to every body all the time. For nothing at all. I have worked on it, and will continue to do so. I had no idea that others were so put off by this automatic reflex response.

You're never wrong to apologize. The video is highlighting the overuse of two words, "I'm sorry". The video goes into detail about a more meaningful way to apologize. It's more about saying to the other person that you recognize what you did wrong and that you won't do it again. Those two words, "I'm sorry", become meaningless when we hear them a lot by someone.
