Since coming together as a band, they cut their teeth playing numerous California dates with groups like Entrance Band, Tyde, Tijuana Panthers, and the Growlers, and have garnered the approval of original UK Psych founding-father Patrick Campbell-Lyons (Nirvana). In the Los Angeles musical community, they gained a reputation as a laid-back, grooving band with strong ties to the authentically LA-centric sounds of bands like the Byrds, Love, and early Captain Beefheart.
The group released their third album, Calico Review, on September 9, 2016. On November 3, 2017, the band released the EP Covers #1. The EP consists of four covers of songs by George Harrison, Television, Kathy Heideman, and Further. In October 2019, the band released the album LAHS.
Better Than Mine

Whether you should hit or run
You've down but not out
You've fallen on your face before
You walk with rhythm in this city
Fast and greedy
Every street would know your soul
Who else but you could fire off
Beaten by the sound
Of a hundred drums in flames
They burn inside you
Light them up above your head
How did I never realize
That change could be this fast?
No more hiding
Running side by side
You're better than
You're better than
You're better than good
Hold your head up
It's time to get up
Girl, just catch your breath
And keep on rocking
How did I never realize ?
You're better than
You're better than
You're better than good
Now you decide
Whether you should listen to the
Should've, would've, could've
Hold them outside
They can't keep your pace
It's done
You walk with rhythm in this city
Fast and greedy
Every street would know your soul
Who else but you could fire off
And swing it once more?
How did I never realize
That change could be this fast?
No more hiding
Running side by side
You're better than
You're better than
You're better than good
Hold your head up
It's time to get up
Girl, just catch your breath
And keep on rocking
How did I never realize ?
You're better than
You're better than
You're better than good
Change it fast
Make it last
Doing everything you can
Go strong
Play along
Just find where you belong
Ask yourself once in a while
Is this everything I want?
What am I waiting for?
What am I waiting for?
The lyrics in Allah-Las's song "Better Than Mine" convey a message of empowerment and self-realization. The singer addresses someone who is at a crossroads, faced with the decision of whether to fight or retreat. They acknowledge that this person has faced challenges in the past, having fallen on their face before, but they continue to persevere.
The lyrics paint a picture of someone who walks with rhythm in the city, fast and ambitious. It is suggested that this person's presence is known and their soul can be felt on every street. The singer praises this individual for their ability to overcome obstacles and rise again, asking, "Who else but you could fire off and swing it once more?"
The chorus emphasizes the belief that this person is not simply good, but better than good. It encourages them to hold their head up and keep pushing forward, acknowledging that change can happen rapidly. The song is a call to embrace one's own strength, encouraging the listener to realize their potential and not let doubts or regrets hold them back.
