Since coming together as a band, they cut their teeth playing numerous California dates with groups like Entrance Band, Tyde, Tijuana Panthers, and the Growlers, and have garnered the approval of original UK Psych founding-father Patrick Campbell-Lyons (Nirvana). In the Los Angeles musical community, they gained a reputation as a laid-back, grooving band with strong ties to the authentically LA-centric sounds of bands like the Byrds, Love, and early Captain Beefheart.
The group released their third album, Calico Review, on September 9, 2016. On November 3, 2017, the band released the EP Covers #1. The EP consists of four covers of songs by George Harrison, Television, Kathy Heideman, and Further. In October 2019, the band released the album LAHS.
Electricity
Allah-Las Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A temporal reaction
Memories slow to unfold
Show you where you've been before
My light, keep the current hot
It is just a fraction
of chemical reactions
Messages slow to unfold
My light, keep the current hot
Electricity
The lyrics of "Electricity" by Allah-Las suggest that before taking action in the present, it is important to consider the past and how our experiences and memories shape our current choices. The "temporal reaction" here refers to the passing of time and how memories slowly come to mind. The line "My light, keep the current hot" suggests that one should hold on to their inner passion and drive in order to keep moving forward with purpose. The use of the word "electricity" in the chorus brings a sense of energy to the song, hinting that there is power in recalling and using one's past experiences.
The verse "it is just a fraction of chemical reactions" is a particularly interesting line as it reminds listeners that everything we experience, feel, and do is the result of chemical reactions in our bodies. Memories, emotions, and even our motor skills are all dependent on these reactions. By acknowledging this fact, the lyrics suggest that we can better understand and take control of our own reactions and choices. Additionally, the juxtaposition of "are you hot or feeling cold?" highlights the contrast between passionate drive and lackluster motivation.
Overall, the lyrics of "Electricity" encourage listeners to take control of their actions by reflecting on their past experiences and harnessing their inner energy and drive.
