I have always had a deviated uvula to the left. I thought this was normal ! I’ve experienced severe allergies and sinus issues my entire life. I am really scared. I don't know whats the reason but somehow my speech really changed and I find it difficult to articulate my speech. I also have sometimes blurred vission in my left eye.

OMG, can't believe this video. Years back I started having crazy symptoms. I actually noticed that my uvela started deviating left suddenly,it was straight prior to symptoms. I even mentioned it to a neurologist I saw, he looked and said your right but had no clue why and acted like he thought I was a hypochondriac for noticing. I knew it meant something. I have dizziness visual disturbance, clicking and popping in neck and massive neck spasm and a list that goes on and on. All things you mentioned vagus nerve can cause. I wish more Drs were knowledgeable about this.

Have you seen cervical instability causing glossopharyngeal neuralgia? Unfortunately I have that too. I think my cervical instability was actually caused by attempting to run on an unstable pelvis caused by labral tear of hip. This instability garbage really spreads throughout whole body over time. It really destroys you. I'm falling apart

Holy smoke! I have been trying to figure out, for the past ten years, what is going on with me and my insane shaking and spasming episode that come on suddenly. I though it could have been the vagus nerve (because I also have an herniated disk between L5 and S1) but couldn’t really tie that to my deviated uvula and to a sensation of having something stuck in my throat; go figure!

Thank you for sharing this information with the world. I have the exact degenerate/ oral pharyngeal syndrome. It is a pain in the ass. I have went through a lot of surgery’s to open up my airway and every tissue returned back or degenerated and created a lot of scarrings. At this point we doing a lot of steroids to prevent another surgery.

What about if uvula is deviating towards numbness and odd taste? As well as horners syndrome in that side, scalp pain and discomfort and headaches, all ipsilateral. MRI clear. Treating for TAC headache atmo which confuses me, but my qualifications as a car mechanic don't help here

What if I have a deviation without saying "ahhh"? When I say "Ahhh" both sides lift up fine I assume? The uvula positions more to the center. I've had a tonsillectomy as a child for context, any chance this did something?

I know that after your prolotherapy treatments to the neck, it is essential to wear a soft cervical collar in some cases. Ive been in a soft collar before, and I find it hard to believe that I could completely stabilize my neck in a soft collar, I was able to move it slightly. Does this mean that if I were to move my head during the treatment, would it hinder the healing process?

Hi Tunrer Jones, The type of collar that someone needs is discussed at their consultation. It is not typically necessary to try and immobilize someone's neck completely. It is used more for support during the healing process. There are different types of soft collars and, in some cases, a hard collar could be recommended for more even more rigid stability. Good questions and definitely worth discussing with your provider. If you are looking to be treated here, this will be addressed with you during your visit.

I know this is three years after you posted it, but just in case you see it, how does this work when you have a prominently bifid uvula (or does it work in that scenario)? I have that (without any other associated issues like submucosal cleft palate or anything like that) and wondering if this method still works--it was hard for me to tell where my almost-two uvulas where going when I did this test lol

I have most of these problems for the last few months, with a almost constant strange dizzy feeling, and my head and neck feel unstable and wobbly when looking down. Just checked and my uvula does go to the right side. I got a brain MRI recently and they said I have Borderline Chiari Malformation. I'm wondering now if the Chiari isn't the one causing the problems or could Chiari cause the the problems with my vagus nerve.

I have a deviated uvula, but it is constantly deviated, not just when I say aaahhh. I have POTS syndrome and about a year ago did see a chiropractor while traveling and he did tell me I was losing the curvature in my Cspine. Wonder if this could be exacerbating some of my symptoms

Currently me it's absolutely disgusting started with endoscopy that went left. I had to be resuscitated during the procedure. The staff were amazing I wish they gave me antibiotics just in case though I did have hypoxemia during the procedure. But I think it's damaged. Hopefully I see ENT Monday I have been having issues for months especially shortness of breathe

Hi Doc, I have a question, It has been a month since my tonsillectomy and realized my uvula is shifted a bit to my left and when I do that AH I can see more of my back throat on one side than the other but my uvula is not actually in the middle. I messaged my doc and he has not replied back when I asked him is this normal looking of my uvula after healing from tonsil removal, and that I am having to swallow many times because my left side, I feel a lot mucus there when I get any and I would have to try water to drink it down but still feel it there and then my throat feels slimy and making me want to throw up by just feeling that in my throat. What is your advice on might I maybe having? I had no problem before I had my tonsils removed now I get a lot of mucus and chest congestions and headaches sometimes.

Hello - it is actually when the uvula is deviated to one side - in this video Dr. Hauser specifically shows it deviated on the right but any deviation can cause vagus nerve degeneration. If you had left uvula deviation, it would be you have right vagus nerve degeneration, hope this helps answer your question!

A couple weeks ago I felt my swallowing to feel very different and I looked in the mirror and my uvula was visibly bigger and deviated. My family thought it was just my anxiety and I’m still looking for a doctor to help me. For 2 years I’ve been having swallowing issues and an extreme fear of choking. @MEMESTAR I had tonsillectomy last year may 2023 due to acute tonsillitis 3 months later observed the same my uvula was stretched at the back of my throat. I search some tips on YouTube and there were exercises that were recommended it has not returned to the original position but there are improvements I.e I could not make words that contain letters "kg.." or "r" or drink or swallow properly now I can swallow without checking and the sounds are getting better. Some ppl mentioned nerve damage during op or post op. Ya I am going to see ENT for another intervention I am hopeful it will return to its original position and size. Thank you and stay strong.

i feel like crying, why, idk, maybe out of relief. for over a year ive had bad vertigo. changed beds, desk chairs, mattresses and all else imaginable. all kinds of tests, scans and whatnot as well. never knew what was going on. i know my chair and personal habits due to lifestyle and chronic pain . for over a year symptoms have been getting worse. chronic sinus issues, inflammation in my eye, blurred vision, incredible neck, traps, face, head pain. waking up foggy, waking up like the moister was sucked out of my head. it would come on and off every day and or night depending how i sit, slept and woke up getting out of bed. i tried many things. my ENT doc wrote order for vertigo treatments by a therapist. never did i know the maneuvers she was doing, were many of the reflexology movements resetting so to speak vagus nerve issues. i would feel great but then after two days feel terrible again. i never knew or was told what the symptoms were, or why i feel good afterward. i always had a hunch something was wrong. would explain how my neck and head felt. NOBODY knew what was going on. i had a bad fall on a bus. since then neck was hurting terribly. however, the ct and xray scans were taken. went to a ortho. they said they cant help me as they are just surgeons, but, sent referral to a pain management place and said i need prolotherapy shots as there is bad cervical degeneration, issues, inflammation. i said ive had it for a while and all the symptoms. ortho doc said prolo will help fix it, and you should get cervical traction as well. he mentioned there is compression on nerves there which control a lof of things my symptoms are from. now after that i looked at videos such as these and others and found out of the vagus nerve. hopefully this has been my issue all along. sick and tired waking up throwing up every morning with my ears ringing, cracking popping as well as cant breathe with the feeling of my chest beating erratic.

if the uvula is already deviated before saying "ahhhh" ? I had some stomach issues (dyspepsia) and after EGD doctors found nothing at all... only a little inflammation but HP negative. ... taking some PPI now it's better for me but the problem is not solved... i've seen my uvula deviated (before saying ahhh) and i suffer from a little grade of cervical kyphosis.... maybe it's the vagus, i'll talk about it with my doctor. thank you!.

My daughter has sudden onset of unilateral palate paralysis / palatal palsy. I can't find much information on this on Google search as there are only about 40 cases known to date. They did a CT Scan of her head and neck at the hospital the impression stated Reversal of the normal cervical letter curve may be due to spasm or positioning. After watching your video I'm wondering if this may be related to the palatal paralysis. She is 18 with no history of medical problems. On Saturday her voice began changing and whenever she drank anything it would leak from her nostril. Now Monday her speech has completely changed, it's very nasally and now when she drinks it's gushing from both nostrils. We do have a referral to evms in Virginia but can not find anyone who specializes in this since it is so rare. Do you know of anyone familiar with her symptoms. We are willing to travel.
