Fresh Laundry
Allie X Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I want to be near fresh laundry
It's been too many years of not folding

These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
No
Yeah
I want to attend nice parties
'Round my neck and head, thin jewelry

These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days (these days)
These days (these days)

You said you're always on my side
But what if my side has changed too much?
Then tell me, who am I?
You said you're always on my side
But what if my side has lived too long?
Something has to die
Who am I?

No
Yeah

I want to wake up (I want to wake up)
To friends calling (friends calling)
I think I've had enough (think I've had enough)
Of hard mornings (hard mornings)

These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing
These days (these days)
These days (these days)

You said you're always on my side
But what if my side has changed too much?
Then tell me, who am I?
You said you're always on my side
But what if my side has lived too long?
Something has to die
Who am I?
Who am I?

Overall Meaning

The song Fresh Laundry by Allie X is a reflection of a person's desire to be in a state of simplicity, to live without being troubled by anything or anyone. The idea of fresh laundry invokes many interpretations, however, in this song, it seems to represent an ideal state of comfort and cleanliness. The lyrics "It's been too many years of not folding" indicates a person who has been living in clutter for a long time and is now yearning for tidiness. This longing is compounded by the desire to be free from the burdens of societal norms as stated in the lines "I want to attend nice parties 'Round my neck and head thin jewellery".

The pre-chorus and chorus repeat the phrase "These days, no one's bothering me 'bout nothing" indicating that the singer is currently living in a peaceful state, free of external pressures. The chorus serves as a reminder of the singer's desire to experience this state of calmness even further. The repetition of "who am I?" throughout the song, implies an underlying sense of identity crisis in the singer's mind.

The song echoes feelings of ennui, longing, and a yearning for change. It is a song that can appeal to anyone who desires freedom from societal norms and wants to live a life that is simple and untainted by the complexities of the world.

Okay, so here's my theory:
The video tells the story of a person living with depression, and all of its aspects.
The first character (the one with the long hair) represents that moment when you feel powerless. She's in her house, there's dirty laundry ih her bed; the television is just showing random content while she's immerse in her thoughts. The mannequins represent her inner demons, which could be fear, panic, anxiety, etc. She can't get rid of them immediately, but she learned how to live alongside them; so she dances with them.
Now the second character (the short haired one) represents the strength to fight, to go out there in the world, to burn your own demons (as shown), to be fearless and powerful.
In the end, both of them meet and recognize each other, after all, they're the same, and they survive together.

I think that's really accurate!

Makes sense. Cuz I think being with 'fresh laundry' can also mean new 'fresh' beginnings.
